    3. Trish, you asked where the death date came from - you show it but where did you get it from? I don't have one for him. I do have a Birthdate from the Bible which is posted - I think - on Lenoir. Can't get Netscape to work today. THere is a copy of the book at Heritage Place and would love to read it sometime. Best I can tell his parents were John and Winifred, but have not seen any proof for any of the sons of John and Winifred. Do you have the obit on Winifred from the Recorder? Ran it to the LEnoir list but might not have run it to Greene. 3. Cin I am looking for info about the following: Horace Eugene Mabe Sr (my husband is a Jr and goes by Gene) Henderson David Mabe Sr Gene's grandfather I need verification of birth and death dates for Horace Eugene Sr. Looking for birth, death dates for Henderson David Sr; also for the name of his first wife and her DOB/DOD. She was possibly a Loftin/Loften or something similar. Henderson David Sr was married to Pauline Joyner who is the mother of Henderson David Jr. He was Dr Mabe in Erwin and died 3 yrs ago. As far as I know Henderson David Sr only had 2 wives. I have not been able to find anything about him or any parents/siblings. I was told that all the family was buried at Maplewood Cemetery. I appreciate any help. 1. [NCLENOIR] Battlefields Update
    2. Jane Phillips
    3. The Historical Preservation Group will be presenting a proposal to the Lenoir County Commissioners on Tuesday January 22 at 4 o'clock. Due to the floods, portions of this Kinston Battlefield (1862) are now owned by Lenoir County. We will be asking the commissioners to designate this area as battlefield and allow HPG to be stewards of the property. Development of these battlefields would bring to our area, tourism, economic growth and awareness of Lenoir County's place in history. If you live in the area and support our efforts to preserve the battlefields please attend this meeting. Members of the group were recently in Washington, D. C. to attend a meeting to discuss the Lenoir County Battlefields with a preservation planner and archeologist with the National Park Service's American Battlefield Protection Program ... Also attending the meeting was the battlefield preservation coordinator with the Civil War Preservation Trust. We came out of this meeting with a good feeling, direction and knowing that these people want to help us.. We met with a member of Sen. John Edward's staff. She will be assisting us with a grant and other support. Martha was kind enough to let us stay with her from Friday until Tuesday. She was a wonderful hostess and a lot of help. Martha thank you so much. We were advised to get a cultural resource survey done and now writing for a grant for it. CWPT is preparing an offer to make to the owner of the 26 acre Wyse Fork Battle Site . We have been working on an Awareness Campaign with press releases, appearances on local cable TV shows, program at civic and club meetings, library displays, brochures, t-shirts, tours of historic sites, web site and anywhere else we can make a plug. Members took two people from the North Carolina Historic Preservation Office on a tour of the Civil War Sites this past week. They did not seem to be aware of just how much history we have here and were very interested. Hope something comes of the visit. We need sustaining members. If you have not joined please do so today. Go to www.historicalpreservationgroup.org for information We need researchers and grant writers. If you would like to help this cause please contact us. Jane Phillips ,

    3. A special welcome to Cindy who just joined Greene and Lenoir today. Cindy is one of the three founders of the new Historic Preservation Group - Jane and Pat are already members of long standing as is Tracy who is on the board and serves as the webmaster. Cindy is not a native of Lenoir but has lived in Kinston for many years. Given her assocation in Sampson and Bladen, without question she has some Dobbs families in her background. Jane, Pat, and Cindy stayed with me last weekend in order to attend a meeting on the Lenoir Battlefields which was very successful and we had a great time. Soon as they catch their breath, Jane is going to give us an update but they have grant applications to be done with a deadline. Martha
