Hi Christine and Bullard Genealogists, Christine, This message is to you but I wanted the William/Nathan Bullard Family genealogists to see the message and responses. I hope you don't mind. It was followups to original correspondence with you that I was able to find my gg grandfather Nathan Bullard on the William Bullard Land Grant Farm in District 5 of Goshen Swamp area in 1785. I found that Sampson Grimes was in that same District, and that this Sampson has also served as Bondsman and Witness to the marriage of Sarah Stroud to our Nathan Bullard. I now see by your enclosed post that Sampson Grimes daughter married a Lott Stroud of Duplin County, NC in this same time period. Could he be a brother of Sarah? Could Lutson Stroud named in the 1783 Duplin County tax list be thie same person? What relationship are they to William Bullard who was also on the Tax List as well as the 1786 Duplin County Census? As you can see, we don't have much information on Sarah Stroud's family. Also, William Bullard appears to have had three daughters who likely married in Duplin County. The County had no information on Bullard marriages. I am wondering if you or any others on the Duplin County Genealogy list might have information of BULLARDS in the area in the 1700s? We will appreciate any information from you or anyone else. Thank you very much, Spencer A. Jack, There is a NC Original Supreme Court Case , No. # 1024, Year 1817, Winefred Edwards vs. James G. Sheppard, Theophilus Edwards and Others, in the NC Archives at Raleigh, NC. Wayne Co., NC In the Case, Winefred Edwards was the widow of one Thomas Edwards who had been killed by a slave (tombstone) 23 June 1816, and Winefred wants her share of deceased husband's large estate. She married Thomas in January 1809 when he was an old man, a bachelor, born in 1753. They had no issue. They lived in Greene County where Thomas was born. Theophilus Edwards, brother and supposed heir of Thomas Edwards, gave a deposition 22 Dec. 1820, in which he said Thomas Edwards left a widow Winifred, who after his decease intermarried with William Westbrook of Greene County (NC). Depositions to be read on the part of the defendants will be taken at the house of Winefred Westbrook in the town of Fayetteville Cumberland County (NC) , on the 21st and 22nd days of September 1821. I don't know Winefred's maiden name and I don't know anything about William Westbrook's family or what happened to the Westbrooks. Did they end up in MS ? I thought you might be interested because of the Westbrook connection. By the way, there were Exums in Wayne Co., too, although I have little knowledge of them. Thank you again for your help. My Mother (which was his granddaughter) said that her father (Rufus Wade) told her that his grandmother's (Pinkney's mother) name was Mary. Before my mother's death, I have heard her speak of Mary many times. Pinkney is buried in a Patrick Cemetery in Institute and Nancy his wife is buried in what they call the Flatfields Cemetery in Institute also. Pinkney died before Nancy did and from what my Mother remembered when Nancy passed away there was no room in the Patrick Cemetery beside Pinkney. A tree has grown up beside him. At the time of Nancy's death she was living with her son Jesse Hampton Wade and his wife Elizabeth Aldridge Wade. The Aldridge Family had plots at Flatfields and they allowed Jesse and Elizabeth to use one of them for Nancy. Nancy's tomstone reads the wife of Pinkney Wade.
Patty put together a Tribute to Ima and posted it last night on Old Dobbers. She did a BEAUTIFUL job. Not sure I knew some of her records had been microfilmed and some of you might be interested in looking at that microfilm. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~paday/dobbers/index.htm click on Tribute to Ima at the top left hand corner. Thanks to Belinda who sent the picture from her website that we got a number of years ago. Many thanks to Patty for a job well done.

Let's make this more complicated. Looks like half the people in Greene Co moved to Miss. Ormond Harper and a William Kilpatrick were also in the West Point area or so I have been told. Also Matthew Moseley who was probably from Lenoir. I just can't figure out the Kilpatricks. William Kilpatrick b NC and Martha Harper, daughter of Ormond Harper - from Greene Co, married in Randolph Co, Ga so they must have made a little stop along the way. Audrey, Were your Carrs out of Duplin Co originally? Those Carrs were not part of the Isle of Wight/Nansemond Carrs - or at least some of them weren't. Found where they came into Wilmington. Hang onto those files for right now. We will do a Carr Project on Dobbers in the spring but we have everything on hold for posting right now. Look forward to seeing your information.
