    1. [NCLENOIR] name Burwell
    2. Martha Marble
    3. Does anyone have the name Burwell, either as a first or surname, in their family as early as ca 1740 - 1744 - south of the river in Lenoir or on Core Creek in Craven. Know there was a Burwell Westbrook but don't think he was in the right place. Thanks. Martha

    1. [NCLENOIR] Mississippi Westbrook Bible
    2. Martha Marble
    3. There seems to be some confusion as to what happened to this Bible record. Jack just said he now has additional information so will redo the file on Tues or Wed and resend it. In addition he has found another one but we have to see if it is the one Rose has already posted. 3. Don't be fooled by the name William Waightstill (Waitstill) Avery. It was a popular name of the time that was used in a number of families because he was so prominent. That name has thrown a number of families. There was an intermarriage between Cynthia Loftin and Walter Dunn fairly early. Have you checked the Loftin Bibles and the Loftin Collection on the Lenoir Co Archives? 2. After looking more closely at my records, I believe there is two Walter D. Lofin's who lived in Kinston, NC in 1880-1900. (1) Walter D. Loftin , born 1856, who married Annie Brock and had 5 children and (2) Walter Dunn Loftin, born 1877, who married Ida Marines Metts. Both families moved to Jacksonville, Florida. But I still do not know when and where Walter D. Loftin (who married Annie Brock) are buried in Lenior County, NC. Annie is a widow when she appears in Jacksonville, Florida in 1905. His father was William Waightstill (Waitstill) Avery Loftin of Wolfscape, Duplin County, North Carolina. Annie and Walter were married in Kinston and all of their children were born in Kinston, Lenior County, NC.

THe charts I have from Cliff Darden does have her maiden name handwritten in as Westbrook, daughter of Moses with a ? mark. Wonder what the documentation is for her maiden name? Like you said, the exact same birthdates even without a surname, would make one look twice. The names of Abraham and Sarah's children don't include any Westbrook names - they are mostly Darden names. 3. A Rob Westbrook gave me some data a few years back and he had another name added to the list as Jack d. Elliott, Jr. gave: William born 7 December 1778. Also Martha gave me a deed which gives Persis surname as Young, copied below. I am looking for information on Gray Westbrook, brother to Burwell and son of John and Honour Ramsey(John's 2nd wife) Gray married Charlotte Wiggins about 1780??Had 5 children by the 1810 census. This indenture made the 22 day of November in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and ninety one between Moses Westbrook of Dobbs County and State of North Carolina, Marchant, and Persis his wife formerly Persis Young, daughter of Charles Young, dec. of the one part and Benjamin Sutton of the same county... of the other part whereas Charles Young in his lifetime did make a sale of a certain tract or parcel of land containing two hundred acres more of less on the North side of the Neuse River and lower side of Bear Creek being the land the said Charles Young bought of Harry Roberts and being part of the tract of land he sold to James Mizzill the original grant was made to Thomas Burnett for 350 acres, to William Waddle and by the said Waddle conveyed to the aforesaid John Sutton dec father of the aforesaid Benjamin Sutton and the said Charles Young having given his bond to make a deed of Conveyance for the aforesaid land before the said...and whereas the said John! Sutton having left the land in his last will and testament unto his son Benjamin and in order to comply with the said Charles Young contracted and take up his bond and as one of the heirs... the said Moses Westbrook and Persis his wife as well in consideration of the promise of thirty shilling current money...payed by the said Benjamin Sutton the aforesaid parcel... 3. Does anyone have anything about MONTRY LOFTIN? She was my husband's grandmother, married to Henderson David (H.D.) Mabe. She is buried in Maplewood Cemetery, Kinston. A very nice person went to the cemetery and took digital pictures of the tombstones and emailed them to me. Her birth: June 19, 1881 and death: Sep 24, 1918. I am looking for her parents and any siblings/relatives. They also lived in the Greenville NC area during their marriage. Thanks for any help. 3. Trish, The Darden Bible does give the exact same birthdate for Sarah but it does not give her maiden name unless I missed it, nor does it give her death date and don't see it in the cemetery records. 3. Sloan went to Kinston recently and went back home with some new goodies from the Brothers family in the Institute area. Guy posted some of the deeds tonight http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/nc/lenoir.htm Deed and Land Records some names - Hill, Cunningham, Brothers, Dawson, Patrick There are also two new Simmons deeds - Guy is going to change those from Misc to Simmons - that indicates a line change between Jones and Lenoir Co after 1858 in a sliver of land up the Neuse Road. Many thanks Sloan. Martha

    3. For those of you who have not yet checked the Dobbs County Court Records found at http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/nc/dobbs.htm Court Records, original Dobbs County Original Court Records you should. Grace Turner, a long time researcher but not on the internet, has turned her notes over for posting. Guy has organized the effort and gotten volunteers to type them up not only for Dobbs, but for Greene, Lenoir and Duplin. Might be some counties I don't know about. Many of these files give parents and there are new ones posted almost every week. May they be never ending. A reminder that you can check each Monday or Tues for new additions to all the county archives at http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/nc/newdocs.htm We are deeply in debt to Grace for this invaluable information that she has collected over many years. Our thanks also to Guy and his many volunteers for getting this information posted. Sue, would you run this and give Grace a copy and please tell her how much all of us appreciate this information.

    1. [NCLENOIR] Wheat Swamp Christian Church
    2. Martha Marble
    3. Tracy suggested running this to this lists and should have thought about it myself a month ago. Jean has been in touch with me and with Francis Hodges who was able to assist her as his grandparents attended Wheat Swamp. Of course, they have Mrs. Holder's History of Wheat Swamp but they are looking for new information. This is one of the oldest churches in Lenoir County in continuous use but because it is on the Greene County line, they have also had members from Greene. If any of you can be of assistance to Jean - pictures, ancestors who were members etc - please contact her privately at harlow@allthingsgeek.com Thanks Tracy, Thank you for taking time to reply to my email. As I explained to Mr. Samply, our church , Wheat Swamp Christian will celebrate 250 years of continous ministry at our annual homecoming services in October. Being selected, or drafted --not sure which, to head up the anniversary committe, I am of course interested in being sure this great event is celebrated properly. Our plans thus far, include several special gatherings of the congregation prior to Homecoming Sunday, and then the final celebration on Homecoming Sunday. We hope to be able to have several items of interest for the members, one of which to be a Historical booklet. I have been trying to collect items to be included in the booklet, but as I have found, people are very slow to share their photos as well as any other items (memories, articles etc) related to the church. I do have a few things but its been very hard. Of course I would be delighted with anything you would be willing to share. You stated you are a part of the Hill Family, We currently have several Hill's that are attending the church, so I am not sure who your relatives might be, please let me know and certainly if I have any information you would be interested in, I will be glad to share. Thanks for your interest and offer of help for I certainly need all the help I can get, This is all new to me and being honest, I have no idea where to search. I have gotten several items off the internet, been to the library, a few pictures from the congregation and a few articles from books but do not have nearly enough to make our booklet a success. I am very excited over an offer of help so therefore look forward to your reply. Jean Gardner
