This issue of the NC Genealogical Society Journal has an in depth study of the Nicholson and Redknap families of Mass and NC. Many of you descend from this family through Joseph Sutton (son of George the first one in NC) who md Deliverence Nicholson. The author, John Anderson Brayton, states he will do another study of the Sutton family. If he can find the connection of John of Lenoir we will all be most grateful. Martha
I have death notice form the Kinston Free Press Wed. May 8, 1901 " Mr. Simon Faulkner died Monday night at his home about two miles from Kinston, after a short illness, aged about 60 years. He was buried yesterday at the family buring ground." Probably one of the 2 Simons from the 1840 Lenoir census,a nd maybe son of Isaac Faulkner of the 1850 Lenoir census. Hal Jordan

In lieu of the regular monthly membership meeting, an open house will be held at the Broad River Genealogical Society's Archives located at 1145 County Home Road, Shelby (directly across the road from Putnam Baptist Church). From 2 pm til 5 pm, everyone will have an opportunity to see how much the BRGS Archives has grown since its dedication two years ago. There will be lots to see and do and people to meet. Civil War re-enactors will be on site. BRGS members will be available to print a special newsletter for you showing what the world was doing on your birthday. Light refreshments will be served. It is not a requirement, but everyone is invited to participate in this event by dressing in costume. Choose your favorite era and dress the part! A gift certificate will be given to a male and female wearing the best costume. Directions to Broad River Genealogical Society Archives are available at our website: www.rootsweb.com/~ncbrgs/index.htm. Everyone is welcome to join the fun, browse the library, and meet new friends and fellow researchers!
Guy has posted all the Lenoir cases that will be posted at this time and will finish the Greene ones today. We appreciate all Guy does in keeping our Archives up to date while holding down a full time job. Thank you Guy. PBS will run an eight part series entitled "Colonial House" starting Tues, May 17 at 8:00 pm. 23 people lived in the manner of 1628 on the coast of Maine (hope it was in the summer). They had 5 cottages measuring 15 x 20 feet and according to one advertisement I saw - garbage disposals which were the pigs in the yard etc. None of us would be on these lists if we were not interested in our ancestors but frankly, I like my modern conveniences. Don't think I would last too long under these primitive circumstances. Martha

Jo I learned something by looking it up in Powell's Gazetteer. It was at Hookerton. "Known as Caswell's Landing prior to the Revolution for Benjamin Caswell, brother of Governor Richard Caswell." But the exact spot is not given.
