Actually, though, there was a Solomon Rew--I've seen his name often in Craven Co. records. I don't remember the dates, however. Barry, forgot to answer this. I am inclined to think in this case, the Sol. Rew was probably Solomon Rouse, probable son of John Rouse I. I think there was actually a Rew family in Craven Co but sometimes Rew and Rouse were used interchangeably. On one deed it mentioned John Rouse as being adj to the Bangs. I have always been convinced the Rouse family came out of New England but can't prove it. I have a Benjamin Taylor born in NC/SC abt 1750-60, who had a brother, Isaac Taylor, who moved toward IL and Benjamin moved toward MO, where he remained until death abt 1846. Benjamin and Isaac Taylor were orphaned when quite small and possibly raised by a Snider family among other families in the area. This ancestor, Benjamin Taylor, has been a mystery to a lot of descendants. Does any of the information match with your Isaac Taylor? Now that we have determined we are talking about the same white family want to run this because Kay or Rose might have something. The name Burwell came from the Westbrook family. Nancy Westbrook, daughter of Burwell and Susannah Uzzell, md Henry Canady in Greene Co. They had children Burwell, Susan, Henry M. and James L. Burwell died in 1854 right after his only child, Burwell Jr was born. His wife was Susan Moore who then married his brother James L. Kay has the information on Henry who married Penelope Waters so maybe they had a son Burwell. Burwell Jr was not born until 1854 and did not die until 1905. They appears to leave out both the Burwells on my database although it has to be the same family you are talking about. No doubt Burwell Sr had slaves - his father in law had slaves. His son, Burwell Jr purchased LaFayette in 1890 which is across from DuPont. As I understand it, the father lived right in the area. The name Burwell runs down the Canady line but I dont have a candidate much less any information on slaves. One Burwell Westbrook died in 1854 before the Civil War and the other one on my database, Burwell jr, died in 1905. The Canady family was in Greene Co then Lenoir so records are scarce. Cardell is a surname. I don't know if there is a conection but I live in Jacksonville, FL and know a Cardell. I'm not sure but it seems to me his family was in the Carolinas at some point.
Sloan has posted a fun file on the Northampton archives http://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/nc/northampton/court/dew01.txt Believe there was some discussion of an Ephraim Lane recently on the Greene List. I have seen information that Haywood's father Joseph was the son of Nathaniel, but I have also seen information that Joseph was the son of Benjamin Waller. This was from a member of the family who is now deceased that did extensive research; however, I have no source information.
