Sloan, I am so very sorry for your loss and send my hugs and prayers your way. Susan Hoffman
Sloan, My thoughts and prayers are with you during this time of your loss. You have been kind and helpful to all the Lenoir, Greene and Old Dobbers members. I feel that we are each a part of an extended family. In our search for family history we are usually happy to find dates to add to our family trees, but the death date of one's mother is a difficult one to add. Blessings to you and your family as you remember the times of joy and happiness with your mother. This is just FYI. I'm not a Westbrook researcher, but the 1800 census for Sampson Co. NC has as heads of households Moses, William, James, Joseph and William Westbrook. The Sampson Co. will abstracts has wills for James Jr., dated 1816 which lists a Moses as son; and several other Westbrooks. I can share the abstracts if this looks promising. Also, Rebecca is recorded in Book 6 (1760's) of the Grantor Index as deediing something to her children, which means she had more than one. I have a Kennedy line, and I think that there is some very early connection between that family and the Arendells, though I have never proved it. FRH

Other records also say "Nathan Arendell listed as being in Capt. Kennedy's Co., Dobb's County, NC, July 26, 1777. (Refer to "Roster of soldiers from NC in Revolution by DAR," pg. 590") Another DAR listing has his birth at circ 1760. If this 1767 birth date is accurate, Nathan was 10 years old! This leads me to believe he was born earlier. Dobbs County Tax Lists, 1780 has a Nathan and a William Arrendale as land owners. Since it is before he married, and Nathan's son, William, was born 1801, I want to assume this William was a father or brother. Nathan moved to Franklin County, GA and is in Franklin Co. Deed Book LL, pg. 69b in 1797, married a GA girl, Susannah Fannin, abt 1790. They raised their family there. This is probably way more information that you want, but would hope you might see a link somewhere for Nathan. Thanks for following up. Minette

How did you arrive at his birth date? Where did Nathan move? As far as I know, my William's only son was James, who died young in a farming accident, loeaving no descendatns. My great-great grandfather, James Arendell hodges, was named for him. frh

There are both William and Nathan listed on Dobbs County 1780 Tax Records. They apparently lived near each other, but that's all I can find. William owned 1529 acres and Nathan 400. Could it be father and son, or brothers? You really peaked my interest on your theory! I look forward to hearing from you. Minette
