The John Heritage Bryan Collection - part 1 - is now on the Lenoir Co Archives site http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/nc/lenoir.htm The purpose was to abstract information for Dobbs, Lenoir, and Greene Counties and also Bryan information. I did make notes for some Craven and Jones Co families. Martha

    3. After my last attempt to send you a URL..I am almost afraid to try again. ;-) I have posted a new Gedcom from Yvonne Kimbrell Gray today. You can find it through my home page listed on the bottom of this message. there are many NC names included. The Gedcom software has been updated and is much better. If I have yours posted, it might be time to update it. If I don't, consider sharing. The following information is from Frank Bell, re: Secretary of State Wills: To obtain copies of the wills, "write to Kim Cumber Search Room, NC Division of Archives and History 109 E. Jones St Raleigh, NC 27601-2807 send a self-addressed stamped envelope your one question a check for $8.00 (search fee) in return mail, you will be advised of the number of pages in the estate folder and the cost to produce copies. As I understand, prior to the revolution wills and estate records were filed with the Secretary of State office. These wills are not to be found in county records, but the original wills are found at the NC State Archives" Mary Westbrook-Drake ICQ# 14695319 <http://www.thedrake.org/note1.htm>

    2. Chris Swinson
    3. Hello List: I know the lists are for genealogy related info, but there's been alot of traffic concerning Floyd, flooding, and road conditions lately, so I thought I'd pass on the following phone number and Info. (919) 549-5100, Ext 7623 connects to the Highway Patrol in Durham. They have a recording that describes current road conditions in Eastern NC. As of 8pm on 20 Sep, Hiway 17 is open from New Bern all the way into SC. I 95 is open, although there is still some flooding, in which case only one lane is open to allow access around. I 95 to Lumberton and US74 East from Lumberton to Wilmington is also open. Also, Tammy: I just spoke to my parents on the Ten Mile in Onslow Co. The Five Mile, Nine Mile, and Ten Mile areas of Onslow are all clear; however, about the only way in is from 258. I'm not sure about power, but my mom has electricity and phone. Any access from Chinquapin or Beulaville is almost impossible due to flooding on Hwy 50 at the Cape Fear River, and parts of the road around Lyman and Pin Hook are also under water. My mom said she'd seen reports of all kinds of livestock floating in the rivers, and even coffins in some areas, where low lying cemeteries were washed out. My grandmother lives near Hargett's Crossroads in Jones...they're boiling water. Everyone take care and be safe... Chris

    1. BRYAN FAMILY COLLECTION
    2. Martha Marble
    3. Patty has the 1st installment of the BRYAN FAMILY COLLECTION up on the Lenoir Co Archives website. http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/nc/lenoir.htm This is truly a mismash of notes. I abstracted it from the standpoint of any information from Dobbs, Greene, and Lenoir County, but also for the Bryan family information up to a point. For this reason there are notes for Craven and Jones Co. The same will be true for the 1st installment of the Bryan Collection from the NC Archives whenever it gets typed. Both of these Collections are difficult to work in so read the introduction. Thank you Patty for being so fast in posting this Collection. Will cut my margins next time. Martha

    1. Hell's a'popping.....
    2. As some of you know, we have been given custody of two of my husband's grandchildren recently which has required a lot of adjustment. The most traumatic was the loss of my office to make a bedroom. This is worked out and I have my office back. HOWEVER>>>>when I moved back into my office and reconnected my computer, Outlook Express where I do all my Email and file all your data and messages wrote an old backup file that I didn't know existed over my current data and what I have lost is: Queries posted after July 2 and before July 4. All unanswered mail. And the Worse.... any data sent to me after April 4th that has not been posted to the pages. This includes data from many people. The ones I remember this minute are, Lydia Sides, Ben Askew, Barbara Shore, Skippy Davis, Pauline Pierce and there are several more that my frustrated brain can't recall at the moment. If you can resend to me, I will greatly appreciate it. And I am alone this week and can go on a catch-up marathon. If anyone has a great backup strategy for a 10 gig hard drive...I'd love to hear. You all are so great about sending data that we have some of the very best county pages in the USGenWeb system. I am sorry to cause inconvenience because I really, really appreciate what you do. 2. Mary L. Stiny
    3. Hi Terry, Gooding is one of my lines. I am not as well versed on it as I would like but I did look up Gooding in the Gwynn Records of Jones Co., NC. In Deed Book 14 , #48 -- Nov 26, 1813. John Gooding, James Gooding, Mary Gooding (also written Mary Wells), Sarah Gooding, Hardy Gooding, Grace Gooding, of Beaufort Co., South Carolina, appoint their brother, Richard Gooding of the same county and place attorney, to receive for them all due from the executors and administrators of Frederick Gooding, deceased, of Jones Co., NC Sworn to Nov 27, 1813, by Richard Simmons, Wts: Richard Simmons, William Mixon Frederick was the brother to my Mary Gooden Adams, who also was heir to Frederick estate. Aaron Gooding mar Rebecca Dean and their children were: Barden(Barding) James Frederick Moses Mary (mar Wm Adams) Elizabeth (mar Aaron Cox) Daniel---had sons James, Richard, John, Hardy, and daus, Mary (Wells), Gracy and Sarah-- these were the same named in the above appointmen of their brother as representative. I find your story interesting considering that Dean is the family name of their grandmother. I look forward to hearing from you. Mary L. 3. Hello I have Thomas Thomas who migrated from Jones Co, NC to Beaufort Dist, SC in 1811 and came along with four Gooding brothers, sons of John Good who is said to have help found New Bern, NC. John was appointed doorkeeper at the General Assembly and served from May 1777 to May 1780. He had 10 children 5 boys and 5 girls. The four sons who came to SC were Richard, John Jr., Daniel and James. Also their brothers-in-lawJoseph Gray, Thomas Thomas, Daniel Wells and Joseph Harrison. I had recently seen a "journal" written by a Lillie Gooding Wilson, Savannah, Ga, a long time ago. In it she saids that Thomas Thomas and his brother Wiley Thomas were Tories during the Rev War and their last name had been Dean, but when they moved to SC they changed it to Thomas. I would like to know if anyone has access to any records of Tories or have any knowledge of the Dean family who married Gooding girls. I just find it hard to believe that they changed their names after moving so far and that they were Tories in the first place unless they had recently immigrated to the US. Any information will be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Terry Griffin Britt (female) Florence, SC
