Marilyn, I have found out that Doctor Ruffin Barber's parents were Isaac Barber and Polly (Polley) Caudle. He is listed as being 13 in 1850 and 22 in 1860. Other children listed in this family are: Cassaline, b. 1835, married Jesse Barber in 1862; Emily born 1839; George b. 1841; Harriet b. 1845, married A. J. Barber, son of Theophilus and Sally Barber; William E. Barber b. 1847, married Susan Byrd on 9/22/1871, daughter of Sutton and Peggy Johnson Byrd; Pency b. 1850 listed as 1 month. In the 1860 census there was also Tom Barber, age 12, Appena (female) age 9, and Sarah, aged 3, but I don't know who these three are. There was only one Caudle listed in the 1800 census, Lewis Caudle, and in the 1810 census there are two Caudles - Lewis and Jonathan. I suspect that Lewis Caudle is Polley Caudle's father, but I have no proof yet. Isaac Barber was born in 1810 and Polley Caudle was born in 1812. They were married in 1837. I have not yet found out who the parents of Isaac Barber are. I found the marriage bond at the Johnston County Courthouse in Smithfield, NC for Doctor Ruffin Barber and Mary Johnson. They were married at the home of Isaac Johnson. Ruffin Barber was my great-great-grandfather. I just moved to the same area where he was raised in Johnston County. Also at the courthouse was a list of Barbers who enlisted all on the same date in 1861 in the CSA. He was discharged as a corporal and worked as a schoolteacher. It was noted that some of the Barbers who came back after the war "went West" - but how far west I don't know. :) Charlie Abraham Barber was one of his sons and is buried in the graveyard of Myatt's Chapel on Highway 401, Garner, NC. Another son was Billy Barber, probably named after Ruffin's brother, William. NC Queries Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/NC/Johnston/1855 Surname: Barber, Johnson ------------------------- I am looking for information on the parents of Doctor Ruffin Barber, b. 1837, Elevation Township, Johnston County, NC. Enlisted in CSA in 1861, along with about 15 other Barbers, all on the same date. Married Mary Johnson 1867 at the home of Isaac Johnson, whom I assume was her father. I would like information on Mary Johnson, as well. I checked census records for 1830 and I believe Ruffin Barber's father was probably named Abraham Barber, because my great-grandfather was named Charles Abraham Barber, but this could be a stretch. Any information would be appreciated. ==== NCJOHNST Mailing List ==== Johnston County, North Carolina NCGenWeb http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncjohnst/index.htm ============================== Visit Ancestry.com for a FREE 14-Day Trial and enjoy access to the No. 1 Source for Family History Online.
