Its my understanding that if you do not intend to leave property to a "rightful" heir, by mentioning that heir and leaving them $1 they do not have the option of contesting the will. They can't claim that the deceased forgot to mention them. There are many reasons for not including a child in a will. Of course the obvious of not wanting them to inherit any of your property for whatever reason. Another, that probably would apply to an oldest son would be that the property has already gone to that child and the remaining children are receiving whatever is left. Just my opinion.
