My Dad, sister and I were just in Greensboro three weeks ago for Uncle Burt's dughters wedding. I'm planning a trip to Smithfield in the Spring to follow up on my WEB-based research. It would be great to meet you. I'm currently trying to expand on the info given by my aunt Lucile. There are too many holes in the immediate geneology to go any further. I would be glad to have any info you have. The Whitley background is curious. Grand dad Bertie Maynard Brannan married Melba Maud Whitley, and his sister married a Paul Whitley. Were Paul and Melba siblings? Also on William Ruffin Brannan, I havn't found out if he had any brothers or sisters. In that period of time it would be rather odd to be an only child. Your being in Johnston County could be an invaluable aid in just being familiar with where to look for records. I plan to of course visit the Court House, the Old Salem Primitive Baptist Church/ cemetary, and hopefully a few Brannans as well. In my internet search it appears that Raleigh Archives will be of help also. If you have any sugestions for research it would be of great help. I just started my research last week. I hope to interest my dad in coming with me, he retired from dentistry 1 year ago at 77 yrs old and is in great health, he can be of help in finding areas in Johnston Co./Smithfield. Thanks so much for your response. Look forward to meeting you. Eddie Brannan 707 McGukin Rd. Bremen, Georgia 30110
