Notes for WILLIAM GRAY PITTMAN: newspaper clipping, no date: PITTMAN. -- On Wednesday evening December 23, 1931, about seven o'clock the good Lord say fit to call brother W.G. Pittman from the stage of action. In the passing of brother Pittman, Beulah township lost one of its best citizens and Holly Springs Free Will Baptist Church one of its most devout Christians. He was active in his church and a faithful member until death, having served as treasurer of the Western Conference as long as he was able to attend. He was also chairman of the program committee of his Union Meeting. He had been serving as chairman of the board of deacons for many years and his prayers will be greatly missed in the church. He was born May 31, 1862. He joined the church at Holly Springs in 1878 and was married to Pinety Hales in 1880. To this union were born ten children and the five that are now living are Mrs. Rufus Starling, R.L., L.F., W.H. and Lula Pittman, all of Kenly, N.C. After the death of his first wife he was married in 1900 to Ella Starling. There were borne to this union ten children and the five of these that are now living are; Flecher, and L.G. Pittman, Kenly, N.C., Mrs Alvin Boykin, Kenly, N.C., Mrs. Ida Phillips, Selma, N.C., and Mrs. Carl Price, Kenly R 2. The funeral service was conducted at his church by Rev. W. M. Ferrell of Kenly, his pastor assisted by Rev. J. H. Worley of Selma, on Thursday afternoon and interment was made in Holly Springs cemetery.
