Edna Stancil Arnold, 78, who leaves family on the Cape, died Thursday, Oct. 28, 1999 after a brief illness. She was the wife of Philip Arnold. Raised and educated in Selma, Mrs. Arnold graduated from Atlantic Christian College. Most of her professional life was spent working as a law librarian for the federal government in Washington, D.C. For the past several years, she and her husband lived in the Springmoor Retirement Community in Raleigh. Surviving besides her husband are a daughter, Jeanne T. Wirtanen of West Barnstable, Mass.; a brother, Wilbur H. "Bill" Stancil of High Point; two sisters, Lucy S. Howard of Selma and Betty Jo Segal of Atlanta, Ga.; a granddaughter and a great-granddaughter, both of Brewster, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews. A graveside service was held in Sunset Memorial Park in Smithfield. Memorial donations may be made to the Selma Baptist Church Building Fund, 1500 N. Webb St., Selma, NC 27576.
