Betty Pace: I can't speak for research in VA, but I can speak for NC. I have been researching in Wake, Johnston and Harnet counties, mainly, for about 11 years and I have found NC to be very generous with their genealogy information. I have now been doing research in MD on my mother's family and when calling around I found restrictions and laws on what info I could and couldn't have access to in MD. I told the people at the MD State Archives, the type of info I have received from NC and I was told "Honey, don't even think your going to get that kind of help or information from MD." I, for one, feel very lucky to have been researching in a state that is really into the genealogy aspect of their state. I always had fond memories of NC while growing up, then when visiting their last year, I can say that everyone was still just as friendly and were so willing to help me. I stopped and talked to strangers, who went out of their way to give me directions, or to tell me that I might want to try this small cemetery, or that cemetery. HURRAY FOR NC!!! Keep up the good work. Diane Keiser (Direct descendant of Etheldred Pollard, of Wake and Johnston Co.) Betty A.
