NC Queries Forum Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/NC/Johnston/12320 Surname: ------------------------- Does anyone think that Ann Mariah Millinder may have a connection to Henry Mille(i?)nder? He worked as a railroad agent at the Mitchner train station and had a daughter that was the first post-mistress for Selma, NC. The Post Office later moved store to store along the RR. route. (page 78, "The Heritage of Johnston County, NC",1985). Does anyone know if this is the Henry M. Millinder from SC? I have heard that Cynthia Ann Milliner's (born abt. 1825) father came with the railroad to Mitchner Station. So could Henry Millinder/Millender be her relative or even father? Daniel Sellers(b. abt. 1828) had over 1355 acres of land and sold 50 acres to Col. John W. Sharpe. Charles Massey surveyed the land on May 1, 1867. Page 77 ("The Hertiage of Johnston Co., NC", 1985) book says: SELMA "The railroad was est. in 1856, from east to west of NC, and crossed the Louisburg to Smithfield Stage road near the plantation of Agrippa Mitchener....that the Mitchner station was used by the Confederate troops as a point of departure. After the Battle of Bentonville, the confederate Army retreated to Mitchner station and the Everitt P. Stevens House." Can someone tell me how I would go about trying to see how close Daniel Sellers property was to the Mitchner station or to Agrippa Mitchner or Everitt P. Stevens House? I would like to find out if they lived close to the train station. Was Daniel Sellers acres located in the middle of downtown Selma or in the middle of the Mitchner Railroad Station? If Daniel had 1355 arces would that be enough to have a relative in house #192 and #605 ============= 1860 census, Johnston County, NC family 192 value of real estate 1355, value of personal estate 1243 SELLERS, Daniel 24 m Head Timber Getter Sarah 26 f Wife TWIN George 2 m TWIN Nancy 2 f ---------------- William 20 m Timber Getter =================== Could it be that Daniel and Alsey Sellers shared land. Could Daniel and Alsey be brothers? We do have 2 Sellers that later found out they shared a close relative that supports this idea. =================== 1860 census, Johnston County, NC #605, T: PINE LEVEL value of real estate 200, personal estate235 Cynthia Milliner 1 f WIFE SELLERS, Alsey 36 m HEAD FARMER (ages vary in census) Jane (Anne) 12 f married M. Any direction to this matter or thoughts about the location or old photos of the area would be appreciated. =================== Cynthia Milliner and Alsey Sellers had a daughter named Jane Ann Sellers. She married Milton Joshua Childers in 1865. They had a daughter named Dora Lee Childers. My Mother (who is still alive)told me that Dora Lee Childers (my G Grandmother)told her many times that the town of Selma was built on Seller property. ========================= The final spin on this is that Dora Lee Childers said Alsey Sellers offered M.J. Childers work, and a place to stay because he had no way to get back to Arkansas after the war. So if any of you are experts(which I am not) on the Battle of Bentonville does anyone know when the Army of Tn. (consolidated units of Arkansas) came into the area to get ready for the battle? Page 24-25 of the "Heritage of Johnston Co.,NC," (1985) book states that the troops were coming as soon as March 13, 1865. Does anyone off hand know if some of this group of troops came by train or fought near the plantation of Agrippa Mitchner, and or even on Daniel Sellers 1355 acres? I am hoping someone that may live in this area of Selma might know the answer to this. I am sure they had outbreaks or very small battles going on all over the area. Could M.J.Childers have met Jane Sellers near or at the train station? How about troops acrossing over his land? How much "down" could the troops have had before the big battle? Could some of the troops have been in the area as early as Jan or Feb. of 1865? The Battle of Bentonville was over by March 19-20, 1865. I am just trying to see where I should go to get some details of where I can write to find some further proof or other possible ideas about the timing of all these events. If you kept up with me this far......thanks ======================= M.J. Childers took out a marriage bond on March 28, 1865. The BONDSMAN was Elisha Moore. Anyone know if he is related?
