Posted on: Johnston Co. NC Obituaries Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/NC/JohnstonObits/10056 Surname: Barber ------------------------- I know this is a hard one. My grandma's grandpa, Doctor Ruffin Barber, is buried somewhere in a churchyard in Johnston County. About 30 years ago, my great-aunt and I went hunting his gravestone. All I know is it was (I think) somewhere off Hwy. 210 in a church yard. His gravestone was way back toward the wooded area of the graveyard of the church. I believe it was in the Elevation section of Johnston County. His birthdate was 1837, and we believe his death date was 1937. I have visited every grave yard I could find in Elevation township, with no luck. He was married to Mary Johnson, so I also checked all the church yards with Johnsons buried in them. I am at a loss, since all the folks who would know where he is buried are dead now. He was a good ol' fella, joined up with the CSA in 1861 when he was 23, along with about 20 other Barbers, on the same day. His wife's daddy was Isaac Johnson. It would do my heart good to find his grave site, but I am beginning to give up hope of ever finding him. If any of y'all find a Doctor Ruffin Barber whilst searching graveyards, I would appreciate your letting me know. Thanks.
