Author: Lighthouseperry Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.northcarolina.counties.johnston/2685.1.1.2.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: If you can find a link to either Hardy or James Sanders you are eligible to join the DAR. The link can be traced directly or indirectly through husband to wife. Kind of zig zags in some cases, but you can't count cousins. It has to be a direct line. I was lucky. My link was a straight paternal line through the Sanders. If you can find a link, the DAR may be able to look it up for you using someone else's line. If they can do that, you can use that person's proof down to your line. From there, you have to provide proofs that link you into the other person's line. A long process, but it sounds like you have a lot of information already. I will be happy to mail the book that I have if you give me you email me at LighthousePerry@aol.com. I'm assuming you don't want your home address listed here. Until then, this is a little of what I have on a Rev War connection: Hardy Sanders, Son of James Sanders, was a Lt. Col in the NC militia. He also provided goods and services to the army and was a delegate to something else. I'll have to look it up for you. He would be a connection to the DAR. Two more you be James, father of Hardy and wife of Sarah, widow of John Johnson. Hardy, 1747 in Bertie, Wake, NC d. 18 MAY 1812 Raleigh, NC was married to Lucy Utley 1744 Raleigh, Wake, NC d 16 MAY 1802 Raleigh, Wake, NC married 1769 in Johnston County, NC James Sanders 1709 in Cynthians, Harrison, KY d. 1763 Sanders Grove, Johnston, NC was married to his second wife Sarah Johnson, widow of John Johnson. Sarah and James were married 4 AUG 1797 in Oglethorpe Co, GA Sarah drew in the GA Land Lottery as the widow of a Revolutionary soldier. That is a link to the DAR as well. James, also a link, "is listed in the NC Treasurers & Comptroller's Accounts as receiving # 30.6.9 cert #100, for services rendered during the Revolutionary War. (vol IX pg 103, folio 2, NC state archives, NC Rev Army Accounts) James is listed as as proving, in the May 1770 court records as grantor of land to Hardy Sanders was proven. Hope some of that helps.
