I'm wondering what would be the correct way of determining what generation a person would be,in the state they live in. For instance,if a person moved from England to North Carolina, would they be considered a 1st generation Tarheel? Or is it determined by being born in the state? That would make the child of the immigrant be the 1st generation Tarheel. Thanks for anyone that can give a definitive answer.
Definitive I don't know---but I personally, would count the first born there, of the immigrant.
