I have not researched your line as well as I have mine. Our ancestries diverge in the early 1800's. Here's what I have: Larkin Blackman Ballance, born 11 Mar 1888 or 11 Mar 1887 (WWI Draft Registration I would tend to believe this) died 19 Jun 1969, married Elizabeth Mitchell, born 12 May 1897 died 14 Jun 1948, on 2 Jun 1915. Son of Blackman Ballance, born Aug 1850, married Mary Ferrell (daughter of Eli Ferrell) on 14 Sep 1871. Grandson of Blackman Ballance, born 1810, married Martha Ward, born Mar 1815 (Also listed as Patsy in 1850 & 1870 US Census) on 6 Apr 1837. Great-Grandson of William Ballance, born about 1770 died 1 Oct 1833, married Peggy Slaughter, born about 1772 died after 1840, about 1794. Great-Great-Grandson of John Slaughter, born about 1746 died 15 Aug 1830. John Slaughter served in the Contiental Army, reaching the rank of Captain of the 5th North Carolina in 1779. John Slaughter originally enlisted with a brother or cousin as privates much earlier in the Revolutionary War. John Slaughter is a very difficult name to research. One reason being the famous Texas Ranger of the same name. William Ballance is also difficult name to research because there are so many William Ballances. I have tried to fill in the period between 1770 when our William Ballance ancestor was born and 1656 when a William Ballance arrived in Jamestown, Virginia from England. William Ballance (1656) eventually owned land that was in both North Carolina and Virginia. This is an involved process bue to the number of William Ballances. Do you know if your aunt Patsy Ballance married a Robert Franklin Raper, Jr.?? William Ballance and his wife Peggy are our common ancestors. I am decended from their oldest son Edmund Ballance and you from their youngest son Blackman. Edmund Ballance served as a private in Captain Bryan's Company First Regiment of North Carolina Milita in the War of 1812 earning a land grant in present day Iowa which he sold later. I hope this helps. Feel free to contact me for any other assistance I might provide :-) Roger Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Roger, I am still looking for anything on Peggy Slaughter and William Ballance lines. I do appreciate your emails. Was William b. 1770 "in Hyde co. ? or Currituck ? Do you have any idea where John Slaughter lived "father or Margaret Peggy Slaughter b. about 1872"... It seems like I am getting no where on the Watkins "Insel " and these other two lines. I guess we all have the same problem. Was there DNA done on Ballance lines since you said it is so confusing ? Thanks again, Gail
Roger, can you tell me what year you think William Ballance / Peggy might of been married .. Years their children born ? Thank you, Gail
