Notes for Hardy Lewis: In 1811 Hardy Lewis helped build the first methodist church in the Mullins, S.C. area. In 1814, he was enlisted as aprivate in the S.C. Militia, Capt. John Woodward's company, 25th Redt in Major Lovelace Gasque's Battation. He died on 7/29/1847 in Marion Co. from a probable heart attack and was found by wife Dicey, Son Joel, and Daughter Margaret " on the main road that leads from Marion County Courthouse to Gilchrist near the lot barn near his former residence" Hardy Lewis bought 1261 acres with ten negroes, tools, and other things on 10/28/1819 from Samuel Gerrald Sr, and his wife Zipha. He also purchased a tract of 500 acres granted 7/2/1798 to Robert Stevens, and 14 and a half acres from Benjamin Lewis on the south side of Cedar Creek near Cartwheel Bay.
