    3. Can anyone help me with a dilemma? I have info about two John Thorntons, one given the middle initial A. and the other, an E. Could these two Johns be the same person? Would like to hear from anyone who has info on these men. Thank you. Freda 1. John A. Thornton married Sarah Sally Sills, daughter of Elizabeth Thornton and Wm Clement Sills of Wilcox County, Al., has a son John Erving Thornton born in 1836, Alabama. A cousin of mine, now deceased, had this John A. as the son of ASA THORNTON and Nancy B. Collier Thornton, but Ken Thornton was never able to find an ASA Thornton in any record. (There is a J. A. Thornton in the 1880 Butler County Census age 52, son James, age 21, daughters Emily F., age 18, Joannie C., age 13, Nancy E., age 8.) 2. A death certificate gives John E. Thornton, son of Needham and Sallie Thornton, both born in N.C., dying on 7 June 1911 in Butler County. He was 75 years old. His wife's name is not given, just described as "widowed. H. H. Henderson signed the death certificate, 8 July 1911, Bolling, Al. " From Mary E. Brantley's Book "Early Settlers Along The Old Federal Road in Conecuh & Monroe Counties": Needham Thornton was a farmer living in the Burnt Corn area in 1850. He was born in NC in 1791 & his wife, Sarah was born in 1796 in NC according to census records. There is no maiden name for Sarah. It lists their children & their children's children. 1..
