    3. Date: Mon, 11 Dec 2000 09:23:40 -0500 From: "Page, Meredith C" <meredith.c.page@lmco.com> Obituary for Johnston County Genealogists researching Davis/Womack/Barnes/Moore line from Johnston County, NC area Death of Lessie Mayon Womack Revell Born: Selma, North Caroline May 2, 1941 along with twin, the late Jessie Mae Womack Page Lived in Pine Level. Attended Richard B. Harrison High School Resided in Silver Spring, MD Died of sarcardosis December 5, 2000 at Wake Medical in Raleigh, NC Buried December 9, 2000 in Selma, NC alongside twin sister, father (James Alton Womack), mother (Bessie Mae Davis) and aunt (Bertha Davis Berry) In response, Ann Massengill writes: Meredith, these are not families I am currently tracking, but the term "sarcodoises" caught my eye. I understand this to be a disease that inflames the lungs and has other complications. MyJohn's cousin's husband, a Johnston County native, just had a double lung transplant to correct a similar condition he has been handicapped by for 10-plus years. He believes he got it working at the Tylenol Research Center at RTP. But my father, b. 1909 in JOCO, NC, d. 1991 in Lee County FL, had a life-long delicacy of the lungs. He died of pneumonia and complications which had plaqued him for many years. During WWII, just out of Duke Med School, he was drafted but not allowed to serve overseas because he had an inexplicable spot on a lung. He attributed this condition, whatever it was, to smoking in his college years and in the Army, where he was the recipient of many free cigarettes, distributed in the Army with their meals and often provided to students. I am wondering if descendants of JOCO throughout the country have lung problems which would indicate some glitch in the common "Down East" genetic pool. Based on my limited experience, it would seem this is an area we might all explore for the common good. Annie
