    3. Hi, Rootswebbers! It is time once again to shake up the line with one of our irregularly scheduled reminders that we really are planning a Johnston County Heritage Day July 4, 2002. AND the "executive committee" will meet in some manner on July 4th of this coming summer. Will every one who wants to be a family representative (or otherwise keep informed) please check in again so I can update my mailing list? {My son has showed me how to do a list of addresses that will all go out at one time, and I need something to try this new skill out on!) We need to plan details of the upcoming meeting. SEARCH: Any member of Jimmy Hayes' family in Benson tuned it? Please get back to me on a personal family matter. His wife Betty is my husband's cousin. MEREDITH PAGE: How do we organize a chat-line? Can we get to it from our homepage? And PLEASE tell me how to attach that homepage to my e-mail in one of the blue addresses like other people have. IDEA: We should get some prominent JOCO-ian to be honorary chairman of the 2002 event. Frankly, y'all, I am not that famous! According to my daddy and his cousin Millie Johnson Dorn, it would be an easy job if Ava Gardner were still alive. Both of them believed they had gone to school with her... a decade apart. (She did die, didn't she?) Y'all think on this and let's come up with a genuine celebrity, preferably one who is somewhat knowleageable about his/her roots and is, or can reliably pretend, to be proud of his JOCO heritage. If we can come up with an active or retired astronaut, NASA pays them to do this sort of stuff. (You know that already if you plan events in the Carolinas, where we have nothing if not an abundant crop of astronauts!) Besides actors and Nobel laureates, think of the number of prominent attorneys, clergy, professional football players we must have out there somewhere. AMUSING STORY: I visited an 8th-grade class at a very expensive, very exclusive, very private school a couple of weeks ago to do an "artist in school" gig. At some point, I was wandering aimlessly about the science of genetics to explain believable characterizations. I explained that John and I, two blonde/brown-haired persons, have four children; one has blue/black hair, one is a true blonde, one is a vibrant redhead, and one has mousy fine brown hair like mine. I waited for some sign that this is remarkable. Finally, one girl on the front row looked brightly at me and asked, "Uh, the one who has hair like yours? Who does HER hair?" I decided that sometimes it might be better NOT to light just one little candle.... life is good... but I can't figure out how to e-file our income taxes for free! annie
