I'm glad to hear that Edgecombe Co. is preserving its history. My husband's ancestor, William Godwin of Toisnot Swamp area in the late 1700's, has a will in Edgecombe recorded in 1873. His son, Thomas Godwin, moved on down into Johnston Co., raised a big family and died there in 1807. We were in Tarboro a few years ago looking at land records and wills. I know there were 2 William Godwins at about the same time--the other one had a wife, Tabitha. I don't know this William's ancestry. Do you have a website? Keep up the good work.
