Larkin B Ballance born in 1888 was my paternal grandfather. He married Elizabeth Mitchell (she died very young in 1949 or so) and they had 18 (maybe 12-14 lived to be adults) or so children, of which my father was one. His name was John Harding Ballance. He had brothers, George Ballance, Paul Lee Ballance, Clifton Ballance, Ben Ballance. The family you mention in your email was his second wife, Mae. He had three additional daughters with her.My father spent his career in Washington DC, but George and Paul remained in Johnston Co their enitre lives. Do you have information about Larkin B Ballance's ancestry? My son, who is 19 and a freshman in college at Campbell Univ, is fascinated with history ( a history major) and would love to know if any of our descendants fought in the Rev or Civil War. My father did not fight in WWII or Korea, as he had suffered from malaria earlier in life. I believe my father might only have a sister remaining and she is Patsy Ballance. She lives, I think, around Richmond, but could have passed. My mother is in a nursing home in MD near my brother. The three daughters from grandpas second marriage came to my father's funeral in 1993, but no contact with them since then I happen to be living on a small farm back in Johnston Co now. Seems like coming home. Pam Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Siblings to Morning were Nancy, age 24; Patience, age 20; Winchester, age 18; Elius, age 17; Gaston, age 15; Cherry, age 12; John, age 10. No William was listed. My maternal line includes the Boons. Willie Stancil Boon was my great-great grandfather. I can not find the Stancil connection, because his father John Boon, and his mother Leatha Dodd show no Stancil cnnection. On my father's side, Mourning Stancil married John W, Cooper (great-great grandfather). Below is what I know of her. Mourning Stancil's heritage can be traced to her father, William Stancil I, born 1803. He and his wife had 2 children, Mourning (or Morning) b.1836, and William Stancil II, b. 1849. Mourning was listed as being born at Stancil's Chapel in Johnston County. Mourning's brother married Mary Massengill, and they had 5 children: George Robert, Dollie, Walter III, Sallie and Joseph. As discussed earlier, Dollie married Hardy Boykin, brother of Robert Spencer Boykin, father of Luther Boykin, Julie Cooper (Mourning's granddaughter). If you know of any connection, please let me know. Thanks. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. The first is Larkin Ballance (born about 1846) who married Seane E. Ballance (born in 1852) on 17 March 1872. This Larkin and Seane were cousins, in fact Seane was the daughter of Larkin's first cousin Aaron Ballance. The second Larkin is Larkin Blackman Ballance born 11 Mar 1888 and is the nephew of the first Larkin Ballance. Larkin B. Ballance married Rettie Mae Bissette (her first name may have been Bettie) and they had three children, the first was stillborn in 1949.
