Hello Diane! I have seen the book you are referring to, it is a great source of information. I would love to swap information, I recently came upon Harry Hinton BARBOUR's POW records on Footnote.com, and other civil war information. The only information I have on Amanda "Mandie" Barber is her birth year of abt. 1865. I look forward to hearing from you. Their daughter, Amanda "Mandie" Jane Barbour married my 1st cousin 3 times removed, Bartemus "Teemie" L. Pollard. I'm a direct line descendant of Etheldred "Dread/Dred" Pollard and Lucinda Smith. FYI - By any chance have you seen the book "The Barbour Clan of Memory Lane" by Todd Johnson, Rt 1, Box 318, Garner, NC 27529, 1982? If not, I had bought a copy online from the Johnston Co Heritage Center. There are pictues in there of many of the Barber/Barbours, cemetery stones, charts, obits, marriage licenses, etc. Feel free to e-mail me at geno1862@comcast.net and I will be glad to send you what I have on Smithy Byrd and Henry "Harry" Hinton Barbour, including my notes and sources. The link can be traced directly or indirectly through husband to wife. Kind of zig zags in some cases, but you can't count cousins. It has to be a direct line. I was lucky. My link was a straight paternal line through the Sanders. If you can find a link, the DAR may be able to look it up for you using someone else's line. If they can do that, you can use that person's proof down to your line. From there, you have to provide proofs that link you into the other person's line. A long process, but it sounds like you have a lot of information already. I will be happy to mail the book that I have if you give me you email me at LighthousePerry@aol.com. I'm assuming you don't want your home address listed here. Until then, this is a little of what I have on a Rev War connection: Hardy Sanders, Son of James Sanders, was a Lt. Col in the NC militia. He also provided goods and services to the army and was a delegate to something else. I'll have to look it up for you. He would be a connection to the DAR. Two more you be James, father of Hardy and wife of Sarah, widow of John Johnson. Hardy, 1747 in Bertie, Wake, NC d. 18 MAY 1812 Raleigh, NC was married to Lucy Utley 1744 Raleigh, Wake, NC d 16 MAY 1802 Raleigh, Wake, NC married 1769 in Johnston County, NC James Sanders 1709 in Cynthians, Harrison, KY d. 1763 Sanders Grove, Johnston, NC was married to his second wife Sarah Johnson, widow of John Johnson. Sarah and James were married 4 AUG 1797 in Oglethorpe Co, GA Sarah drew in the GA Land Lottery as the widow of a Revolutionary soldier. That is a link to the DAR as well. James, also a link, "is listed in the NC Treasurers & Comptroller's Accounts as receiving # 30.6.9 cert #100, for services rendered during the Revolutionary War. (vol IX pg 103, folio 2, NC state archives, NC Rev Army Accounts) James is listed as as proving, in the May 1770 court records as grantor of land to Hardy Sanders was proven. Hope some of that helps. We are related, if not distantly. My gggg grandfather Reuben built White Oak/the Sanders-Hairr house. If you are trying to find a link to the Revolution, they are Hardy and father,James Sanders. The information I have is "James Sanders is listed in the NC Treasurer's & Comptroller's Accounts as receiving #30.6.9 Cert. number 100, for services rendered during the Revolutionary War. Hardy Sanders s/o James and Ann Holmes, is listed in DAR records as being a Lt. Col in the NC Militia and providing goods and services. He was also a delegate, but I can't remember to what. I'll have to check on that. Does any of that help you? Do you have any pictures by chance? I don't have anything other than paper and proof for generations that far back. My only Uncle Rual Johnson age 78..I paid for him to have a DNA test two years ago so now we have five Johnson's, and two Johnston's in our DNA group. Have all of their email address's and the one that contacted me two days ago is the one whose ancestor's for generation's in Scotland contacted me. What a happy day that was Mickey. Now we have to make the connection of a relative or more who came to America in the 1800's. So my earliest relative's came from NC and two of them were children named Daniel born about 1818 in NC and his brother named Joel Johnson born 1814 NC. We are sure on his birth date through a relative. So what we need to find out is where in NC they came from and who were their parents. We think it may have been a William, Daniel, or a Joel but not sure. Thank you for your time and any help would be appreciated. Thank you, Linda
