    3. Mark: My name is Ray Peden and my g-g-g grandfather was Bryant Howell Peden of Giles County. I believe they migrated from North Carolina with some other brothers of Amos Peden's family. He and his brother Elisha settled in Giles County about the same time as Nancy, so I'm hoping there is a connection between our families. I really don't have any connection to Amos Peden except that Bryant's middle name is Howell. His brother Elisha had a son named Howell as well. I would appreciate any information you have on the Johnston/Giles connection. 3. Roger, I am still looking for anything on Peggy Slaughter and William Ballance lines. I do appreciate your emails. Was William b. 1770 "in Hyde co. ? or Currituck ? Do you have any idea where John Slaughter lived "father or Margaret Peggy Slaughter b. about 1872"... It seems like I am getting no where on the Watkins "Insel " and these other two lines. I guess we all have the same problem. Was there DNA done on Ballance lines since you said it is so confusing ? Thanks again, Gail

Heritage Quest does have all the census records, but not all the indexes. You can go to browse put in the state, county, area and etc and start from the first of the census record if you want to browse. I do this sometimes when I just can't find someone and I know they were the but didn't get put on the indexes. This happens more than you would think. 3. My name is Linda (Johnson ) Griffin and I used to belong to Heritage Quest but not now. Never could get it to work for me. The reason I am writing is that I get these Today's Topics and would like to get the information of so many of your topic's as my Johnson's came from NC in the late 1700's or early 1800's to finally settle in McMinn Co., TN and to later when Bradley Co. opened up with Land Grants that my ggggfather bought 80 acres there. Now he had a brother named Joel b. ca. 1812-14 in NC and Daniel ca. 1815-18 in NC so they were very young but with help we cannot find any census's with their parents names on them. There were lots of Johnson during that time of migration. My uncle who lives in McMinn Co., TN and is 78 now had a DNA test done three years ago so we are in the JJJ Project with five other Johnson and one Johnston whose relative came from Fife, Scotland and they do not know when. He was born ca. 1795. So my uncle cannot use a computer and I can and I update the site and the other one with different names. If you could send me any information of where I should look it would greatly be appreciated. Thank you, Linda Griffin ----- Original Message ----- From: <ncjohnst-request@rootsweb.com> To: <ncjohnst@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, April 23, 2008 12:00 AM Subject: NCJOHNST Digest, Vol 3, Issue 57 Today's Topics: 1. 3. Hello, Franklin! Do you happen to know if it is true that Captain Lee married three woman named Mary? I've seen Mary Bryant, Mary Ingram, and Mary Griffin. Also, have you ever met David Rains? He has written a book about Mary Ingram Rains, her son Henry Rains of Kentucky, and her husband, Captain Lee. http://books.google.com/books?id=QVIiCyEQslQC&printsec=frontcover&dq=inauthor:rains,david+s.&source=gbs_summary_r&cad=0 I am descended from his son Thomas Lee, Jr., and was wondering who his mother was. My mother's middle name is Lee, as a tribute. Thank you. I am not at home so I cannot give exact information. Captain Thomas Lee was definitely in the Militia and maybe the Continental Line, I forget. He later led a party to survey land in what is now TN that was given to veterans of the Continental Line. I have a fair amount on him but it is not easily accessible. He married a daughter of Richard Ingram, who was himself a Patriot. She had first married a Rains. She and Capt Thomas Lee had a bunch of children and packed them up and moved to TN. Capt Thomas Lee's brother, John Lee, apparently also moved with them to TN. John and his wife also had a bunch of children. 3. Freda, Heritage Quest does not let you search the 1850 census. However, you can click on browse for 1850 and you can find your entry if you know the page number.
