    3. Can't help but wonder if that 1814 map could be digitally scanned in smaller sections and put together via a panorama, or similar, program, then digitally reduced for the online benifit of everyone. A digital scanning company should be able to do that. I guess it would all depend on the expese of the scanning and whether the size of the map makes it feasible Mike Sullivan in Louisiana ----- Original Message ----- From: gc-gateway@rootsweb.com To: NCJOHNST-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Sunday, October 19, 2008 7:10 AM Subject: [NCJOHNST] 1814 Nc MAp This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. 1. Re: [NCJOHNST] 'Earliest Tennessee Land Records' Peacock, Ellis
    2. Ray Horton
    3. I would very much appreciate a look-up. I have been trying to find out just when some ancestors arrived in Henry County TN from Wayne County, NC. I believe it may have been circa 1830. My ggg grandfather Wiley (or Willie) Peacock came with his wife Leafy (or Liffy, Lefa) Ellis Peacock and children, along with her mother Phereby (Merritt) Ellis (widow of Absalom Ellis b. abt 1755, died 5 November 1827 in Wayne Co, NC, m 1780 Duplin Co. NC), and siblings Theophilis Ellis (m. 1st Sarah Alexander, 2nd Mary Lewis), Theresea Ellis Charles and her husband John Charles. Do any of these people appear in 'Earliest Tennessee Land Records?' The Willie Peacock family is found in the 1840 Henry Co. TN Census. Also on Henry Co. tax list for 1836 there is a Willie Peacock 3 rd. dist. 1 poll Willie PEACOCK listed in Henry Co.,"1836 Tennessee Civil Districts and Tax List" as being in District No. 3. Dist. 3 is made up of Whitlock, Osage and Hico and adjoins district 16 (where Wiley's son Rufus was in 1850 census) that makes up Conyersville. The Peacock family later moved to Carrol County, House 1231 10th district, in the 1850 Census, with Lafa (Leafy) as head of household, so Wiley presumed dead by then. Prob. died between 1840 & 1850 since he's in Henry County 1840, but not with family in Carroll Cnty. 1850 Census, most likely 1844-45, since youngest child Lefa L. born in 1845. I've yet to find death or burial info for Wiley (Willie) Peacock in Henry or Carrol County. Any help with any info I don't have on these Peacock/Ellis families would be greatly appreciated. -----Original Message----- >From: "gc-gateway@rootsweb.com" <gc-gateway@rootsweb.com> >Sent: Oct 17, 2008 9:43 AM >To: NCJOHNST-L@rootsweb.com >Subject: Re: [NCJOHNST] Stancil/Stansill > >This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > >Author: wsmk13 >Surnames: Stancil various spellings), Presley, Mitchell, Holden, Chamlee, Bennett, Owen, Hammond >Classification: queries > >Message Board URL: > >http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.northcarolina.counties.johnston/53.1238.1940.1947.1951.2.2.1/mb.ashx > >Message Board Post: > >Does anyone know about this Peter Stancel? > >Peter Stancel listed in book 'Earliest Tennessee Land Records' on page 377: > >Claiment: Peter Stancel; File:1336; Assignee: Marvel Lowe; >County: Sumner; Acres: 640; Grant 3136; Grant Date: 14 Sept 1797; >Entry: 4444; Entry Date: 15 May 1796; Bk 90, Page 418; >Location by Stream Name: On Salt Lick of Big Barron; >Military: Yes > >Important Note: >The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 2. Betty A Pace
    3. There were a tri-racial group in the upper south which included Paces (possibly mine) and others. Since members of this group were classified variously as white, mulatto, or FPC (free person of color). Many were so light skinned that they could easily pass into the white world and pass their name on. To see this interesting story, go to http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~pace/pacepix/Pace-Taylo r/ My own Alsey Pace (b.1785) was the illegitimate son of Stephen Pace and an unidentified Native American girl. He married two white women in Johnston Co. NC--Zilpha Hall (my line) and Cassandra Dean.
