NC Queries Forum Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/genbbs.cgi/USA/NC/Johnston/1836 Surname: Woodard, Massey, Hester, Talton, Capps, Lynch ------------------------- My mothers Woodard connection was Kedar(Kader) Woodard and Emma Lynch Woodard. Kedar Woodards parents were Henry Woodard who married a Sally Massey both of them from Johnston County NC and died before l904 before my mother was born to Elijah Lynch and Louisa Strickland 1904 Mother was adopted and raised by the Kedar Woodards after her mother died in child birth. Emma Lynch Woodard was sister of Elijah Lynch who died 1930 in Smithfield NC. Old folks home I think. These Woodards and Lynchs and Masseys lived in Boonhill Township Princeton North Carolina. I do not know of any Dickerson connection or Franklin County NC connection to these people. I was told the Woodards came from Virginia early on to NC. Maybe they came by the way of Franklin County NC but I do not know. Good Luck and Good Hunting! I am, Sincerely, Westa Talton Morris 10/7/2000 NNVA Mawpar@aol.com

    2. Diane Keiser
    3. Annie: By any chance did you know HP (Ulyses Harrison) Pollard, my grandfather, who lived in the town of Four Oaks, not far from the school, in one of the houses on a corner? He and his 2nd wife, Mary Lee (West) lived there for many years, until his death. Mary still lived there until a little while back, when she, unfortunately had to be put in a nursing home. The last I had heard, she still owned the house, but that it is now being rented. Diane Keiser Ann Massengill/John Evans wrote: > Please keep me posted on the Barbours. 1. Re: [NCJOHNST] Why don`t we get together in Johnston County ?
    2. Diane Keiser
    3. I would be more than willing to help. I would love to represent the POLLARD family(ies). If the Johnston Co List would perfer that we not do this on this list, then I would like to make a suggestion. Can someone out there make a website for this get together? That way it would not bog down the Johnston Co list. Then on occassion the progress of the get together could be put on the list, with a link to the Johnston Co Get Together website. The website could list various people who you could reach in regards to the surnames of the family(ies) they are representing, the progress of the plans, etc. Another suggestion would be that someone or more than one person that lives in Johnston Co form a committee to take on the responsibility of trying to find a place to meet, figuring up the cost of renting a place (if there is no other option, but to rent), making up a list of hotels/motels in the area that a person could inquiry about making reservations, etc. This info could be put on the website. A barbecue is a great idea, but it has to be taken into consideration that people coming from out of state may have a problem with transporting food and it not going bad before the get together starts. I will try to be of as much help as I can. I can also be e-mailed at: geno@blazenet.net Diane Keiser Ann Massengill/John Evans wrote: > At 01:01 PM 9/16/2000 -0700, you wrote: > >Surname: WATSON, MOYE, WOODARD > >------------------------- > > > >Ann, your idea is great. 1. Re: [NCJOHNST] Why don`t we get together in Johnston County ?

    3. I would love to see a get together take place! I have been researching the Etheldred Pollard family, from Wake and Johnston Co, for about 10 years now. I have gotten back to the mid-1700s so far. As a child and up into my teens I use to visit in Johnston Co (mainly the Princeton and Four Oaks area) every summer. I have such fond memories. Anyway, I visited Johnston Co last summer for about 6 days. Progess may have stepped in and many areas have changed, but one thing that didn't change was the people. I went cemetery hunting and looking for obscured cemeteries and the people in the area were so friendly and so willing to help. Not one person gave me a strange look or an attitude because of looking for cemeteries and/or information about my Pollards. I have to commend the willingness and the helpfullness that the people of Wake and Johnston Co have given me when I make phone calls and/or mail inquiries about my genealogy. Many of these people have bent over backwards to help me. I also now do research in Maryland and let me tell you, there is no where near the willingness to provide genealogists with information like NC's willingness to provide information. When I told someone at the Maryland State Archives about the availability of getting counties of documents from the Wake and Johnston Co, NC, her respond was, "Honey, don't even think your going to get that kind of help in Maryland." My point is HURRAY for Wake and Johnston Co, NC!! I for one would love to revisit, even if it is to just sit and talk to the people in the county and to talk to other genealogists researching in that county.
