Gail, I just copied the following Descendancy Chart on one William Ingram that I downloaded from the Lee House of John Lee, Esq. I believe this repeats some of what I sent earlier in my E-mails to you. However, as you can see, there is no documentation for any of the assertions, but I believe that this data has been relatively well researched and I gave you some documentation in my prior E-mails. However, I am still wanting documentation that the same William Ingram married first Bethanah Lee and then her first cousin, Nancy Lee Johnson. If you go to the first URL below you can find a great deal of data on various Lee families in the US. If you go to the second URL, you will find only John Lee, Esq data. There is a GEDCOM file that you can download on John Lee, Esq and his descendents. No parents of the William Ingram who allegedly married first Bethana Lee and then Nancy Lee Johnson, are identified. Would you know who he might be? Franklin http://members.tripod.com/LeeHouse/index2.htm http://www.members.tripod.com/~LeeHouse/Jlx-map.htm Descendants of William Ingram Generation No. 1 1. Franklin, I have this info. on Ingram some gotten from list other with census information the only Nancy in area + the Ingram family lived next to the Thornton's in county, can't remember at the moment if Sampson NC. MY Nancy INGRAM m. David Thornton she was on census and living with son. Samuel Isaac Thornton before 1854 I think. I have not found a marriage certificate. HER grave I was told has been destroyed by farmer's making a "pond"? in Johnston co. that is why there is no record of her burial place. This was TOLD to me by a woman in her 90's that knew the family. That is how I connected the two William's her father William on census and to the list. I have a question mark for sure against this info. to double check. gail
Gail, Thanks for the opportunity to clarify the Ingram to Lee information that I posted to the Johnston Co List. I am an Ingram researcher and not a Lee researcher. As to any William Ingrams who were married to any Lees, the following is what I have accumulated. (1) Others on various Roots Mailing Lists have asserted that a Bethanah Lee, born about 1790, and died before 1835 married a William Ingram who was born 14 Mar 1790 and died 25 Apr 1860 Lowndes Co AL. I have asked for documentation of these assertions but so far I have no documentation. These same "facts" were asserted in a 1997 issue of the "Johnston Co Genealogical and Historical Society Journal." There is no doubt that Bethanah Lee did marry an Ingram and that she in fact did die before 1835. This can be proven from her father's Will signed in 1835 Johnston Co NC. This was the Will of John Lee, Sr., son of Edward Lee, and the grandson of John Lee, Esq. The death before 1835 for Bethanah Lee Ingram is based on the fact that she was no longer living in 1835 when her father's Will stated: "Heirs of daughter Bethany Ingram-$1.00 with Est. already received." At first I misread the Abstract of this Will and thought that Bethana Ingram was still alive in 1835, but she was not. I assume that because the birth and death dates are so specific for this William Ingram that they come from a Tombstone in Lowndes Co AL or from a Family Bible or some other document of this sort. But I do not know what this documentation is. The problem for me is that none of this states that Bethanna Lee was married to this William Ingram who later died in Lowndes Co AL, but some of her descendents claim that this is in fact true and the undocumented data in the Johnston Co Genealogical Journal supports this claim. (2) On, 20 Jan 1823, a Nancy Lee Johnson and a William Ingram were issued a Marriage Bond in Johnston Co NC. Their descendents say that this couple and their children were in Dallas Co AL by 1850, as does the 1997 "Johnston Co Genealogical Journal." Nancy Lee was first issued a Marriage Bond to marry a Littleton Johnson, 13 May 1821, in Johnston Co. So, if this is the same William Ingram who may have first married Bethanah Lee, the daughter of John Lee, Sr, then Bethanah died prior to 1823. However, I have no documentation that they were the same Ingram, though some of William Ingram's descendents state that he married first Bethanah Lee and second Nancy Lee Johnson. The 1 May 1823 Will of Jeremiah Lee states: "Daughter Nancy Ingram-150 acres land on SS Beaver Swamp, deeded to me by David Lee, 17 Mar 1814, etc. Jeremiah Lee married Elizabeth Avera. He was also the son of Edward Lee and the grandson of John Lee, Esq. So he was the brother of John Lee, Sr whose daughter, Bethana also married an Ingram. The claim by descendents of William Ingram, who died in Lowndes Co AL, is that William Ingram married first Bethanah Lee and then married her first cousin, Nancy Lee Johnson. Perhaps, Freda Noble can shed some light on this puzzle. I think that she is a descendent of or knew a descendent of William Ingram. Freda was also interested in a Fail connection. It is interesting to note that two of Nancy Lee Johnson Ingram's brothers married Fails. Isaac McDonald Lee, b. about 1805/10, married first Polly Fail and second Rachel _____. He was in Butler Co AL by 1840. Alexander Lee, b. about 1805/10, married Elizabeth Fail. He was in AL by 1836. Maybe someone can help straighten this out and provide some documentation. Franklin Ingram
Gail, I have no documentation that Bethanah Lee Ingram married a William Ingram who was born about 1790. Lee researchers and some Ingram/Lee descendents claim that this is so. We can prove that Bethanah Lee did marry an Ingram and that she died prior to 1835 when her father signed his Will. What I do not know is if this Ingram's given name was William. Also I do not know the parents of this William Ingram--if he in fact did marry Bethanah Lee. The estimated dates do not fit for the William Ingram who was the son of Baranaba Ingram and Edith Altman. Baranaba and Edith did not marry until 1797. Further, some claim that after Bethanah Lee Ingram died, this William Ingram married Nancy Lee Johnson, the widow of Littleton Johnson, and they removed to AL. A marriage between Nancy Lee Johnson and a William Ingram in 1823 is proven by a Marriage Bond and by Jeremiah Lee's 1823 Will. Jeremiah was the father of Nancy Johnson Lee Ingram. She was Nancy Ingram in Jeremiah's Will Can you send me some documentation on your 2 William Ingram's? I am sending you a second E-mail that responds more fully to your query, but this short answer is the heart of the matter, I think. Hello Franklin, I have been looking over the information that you sent to the list & me. Can you tell me who this woman is married to - I don' t want to put her down with William Ingram in case he is the wrong husband. Can you give me a est. date on husband , I have 2 William Ingrams in my tree.... I will copy part of the letter where you sent the information on this woman. THANKS again for all your help.Gail This confirms that Bethana Lee Ingram had died prior to 20 Jan 1823. Bethana Lee Ingram's heirs inherited in her father's (John Lee, Sr) 1835-Will. [Note that I misread the Will Abstract for John Lee Sr (1835) before sending my earlier note on Bethana Lee Ingram and William Ingram and had assumed that she was still living in 1835 when her father signed his Will. Sorry for any confusion that this might have caused.]
Can someone look up the marriage bond info for William R. Lee and H.A. ?? They had a son named George Lee born in 1874.

Pearl, it is so good to hear from you that I don't care about the mistakes. I would't have had the nerve to undertake anything like this if you hadn't chimed in with your whole-hearted support from the beginning. **** FIRST INFO WE NEED: Let me ask you and all the other family reps to the Steering Committee to contact other relatives, whether they live around the corner and you've known them all your life or whether you met an hour ago on the rootsweb in search of a common great-great-grandfather. We are looking for an indication of interest and trying to determine about how many from each family might attend. It is time to start identifying those families which are interestesd in attending and getting from them the actual places relevant to that family that they'd need help finding. I may not sound like it, but in my mind I REALLY DO have all this pretty much together... if Warren can receive a few dollars from each us and take care of the communal preparations. I have not overemphasized the need for handicap accessible facilities, and perhaps I should have more to say about that. I expect each of us is keenly aware that none of us are up to tromping very long through the woods or climbing a dozen steps to look into a church... beyond that, I also know that the places some people WANT to go are a tromp, tromp-and-a-half through somebody's woods, and somebody's going to have to locate these sites for us and get us directions and arrange to keep the owners from shooting them. Some people don't "do well" if every moment isn't planned down to the red carpet ride back to the airport -- hey! if those people will send me $10,000 I'll head up the road and work for them for the first six months of the year. Likely, they wouldn't be happy no matter what. You know one of the best trips we ever took? We went to Greenville NC or somewhere near there, for a function I can't even remember attending. But while the guys played golf, the "ladies" were taken to visit an old farm out in the country where a gentleman-farmer in his 80s spent the morning just showing us the old farm implements he had collected. It was raining cats and dogs, and there we were in our dress casuals trying to stay dry. Then we dashed the 100 yards or so to his house and had some lemonade and cookies. It was fantastic! Yeah! It was a charity golf tournament! Then men got rained out and were delighted to have all morning to talk guy-talk. That's the kind of experience I'd love for everybody to have -- well, except about the men getting rained out. Of course, it wasn't for everybody, and I had nothing to do with those plans. But, Pearl, I learned that day that there is a hell of a lot more to see and learn about no matter where the good Lord sets me down than to waste another day at an outlet mall! And I am profoundly betting that there are people -- people who are kin to us -- all over Johnston County going about their business, just waiting on someone to come along and ask them to share the knowledge they've spent a lifetime gathering up. I just hope one of them lives in Bud Massengill's house and knows about all those Massengill Family cemeteries. And that we can find him/her! I feel like we have made the first move: we have said to all & sundry, "Johnston County, I'm interested in you and I'd like to drop by and chat." Now we'll see what happens. WHATEVER actually happens is bound to beat the hell out of another week of cable television and traffic-dodging -- and when I think of what all the people in all those cars who are inexplicably drawn to Myrtle Beach on each and every holiday or excuse for one ARE SPENDING just to keep from staying home... well, I think it would probably drastically reduce the National Debt! YO! MAMIE TATE! I put in three extra periods just for you! HEY, Y'ALL! If Meredith Page is ready, we should be on our own website Monday or Tuesday! Then I can tell y'all about Mama and Daddy's midnight ride through the Andes Mountains in search of a mahogany farm in the Amazon Basin. Does anybody else know of people from Johnston County who cannot follow directions and spend half their travel-time getting lost? If so, welcome them to our club with open arms. Life is good! annie At 01:34 AM 10/21/2000 -0400, you wrote: >Annie, > >I meant to state in the previous email, that I am still on the "Amen List".I >made two errors ( I sometimes have made more ) on the reply email. Final resting place not final By Clay Cansler, Wilson Daily Times Staff Writer After lying undisturbed for nearly 120 years, a few Wilsonians will receive a new resting place soon. Road expansion for a new subdivision prompted the removal of a family graveyard near Dewfield development across from the Seventh-day Adventist church being built on Lake Wilson Road. Large cedars covered the three to six graves, which are now in the way of a deceleration lane for the 52-house subdivision being built by Kingsmill Homes. Crews are still digging to determine how many graves are at the site. Ward Sutton, owner of R. Ward Sutton Cemetery Services, said it appears to be the Perry family graveyard. A headstone atop the ground marked the grave of Jane Ellen Perry, who died Jan. 28, 1886. Among remains found Tuesday were handles, screws and glass from a coffin, a glass button and reddish brown skull fragments from a corpse. Unfortunately, nothing was found that could identify the corpse, although Sutton said it appeared to be a man from the size of the grave. Remains from the graves will be transferred to Maplewood Cemetery, where they will be individually casketed and entombed. A marker will announce the graves' original location and a notation will be made in the county courthouse. Mike Webb, engineering assistant with Green Engineering, said an advertisement was run in The Wilson Daily Times for four weeks announcing the removal of the graves, giving relatives an opportunity to voice opposition. No one voiced any objection. Joan Howell, who has published three books on genealogy and old graves in Wilson County, said she has not been able to find a lot of information on the Perrys. She said it appears John Perry, husband of Jane, remarried after her death. His remains and those of his second wife may be there. There had been rumors the cedars hid 20 or 30 slave graves, but Webb said residents might have confused the Perry lot with a bigger graveyard down the road. To be sure no graves are missed, crews are unearthing a 50-foot by 50-foot area around the graves. Workers used finding rods, like those employed to determine the location of septic tanks, to locate the graves. Sutton said soil disturbed by digging remains soft. About 2 feet below ground, an observer also can tell where a grave is through discoloration of the soil. The rich brown of decomposed coffin wood and of the corpse are easy to spot against North Carolina red clay. Sutton said a person can tell a lot about people by their graves. Since the first grave dug up was probably that of a man judging by its size, it is likely that the remains of his wife will be to his right facing the east, which is customary in burial. Personal effects and ornaments remaining often give an idea of the gender and wealth of the entombed. After 30 years of digging up graves, Sutton said he's found all sorts of things under the ground, including glass eyes. "You have it, I've dug it up," he chuckled. "It's like the good book says, 'Earth to earth, ashes to ashes, dust to dust.'" G. Hunter Ferrell snuffy20@telocity.com
Lookup Request - Smithville: If possible, I would REALLY appreciate it if someone could look up MINNIE BAKER's birth in the Johnston County records. She was born in March of 1877. I really would like to know her parent's names. (also, her son Robie Howard Baker, b: June 1897 - I would love to know the father's name... it hasn't appeared on anything I have found.) I tracked her through various years of the census (1900,1910). After 1910 she disappeared. I'm not sure if she died or married at that point.
