    3. People from afar can help thru e-mails, phone calls and mail, but the actual committee would probably be better if it were people actually living in Johnston Co or near the area. I'm sure it would be easier for these people to check out things down there, then for those of us who would like to help, but can't get there to check things out. If the planning committee were Johnston Co based, then the rest of us could help in other ways that the committee would feel that we could best serve them. 3. To anyone researching the above surname: I have been researching the Pollards of Wake and Johnston Co for about 10 years. My ggrandfather, John Hayden Pollard m. Minnie N. Rogers (also seen spelled Minter Rodgers) on Nov 23, 1890, Wake Co, NC. Minnie was b. in Wake Co. They are then found in Johnston Co. According to her death certificate her parents were Zeial Rogers and Ann ??? (both supposedly b. in Wake Co, NC). By any chance does any one have any info on Minnie or her parents. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

My Dad, sister and I were just in Greensboro three weeks ago for Uncle Burt's dughters wedding. I'm planning a trip to Smithfield in the Spring to follow up on my WEB-based research. It would be great to meet you. I'm currently trying to expand on the info given by my aunt Lucile. There are too many holes in the immediate geneology to go any further. I would be glad to have any info you have. The Whitley background is curious. Grand dad Bertie Maynard Brannan married Melba Maud Whitley, and his sister married a Paul Whitley. Were Paul and Melba siblings? Also on William Ruffin Brannan, I havn't found out if he had any brothers or sisters. In that period of time it would be rather odd to be an only child. Your being in Johnston County could be an invaluable aid in just being familiar with where to look for records. I plan to of course visit the Court House, the Old Salem Primitive Baptist Church/ cemetary, and hopefully a few Brannans as well. In my internet search it appears that Raleigh Archives will be of help also. If you have any sugestions for research it would be of great help. I just started my research last week. I hope to interest my dad in coming with me, he retired from dentistry 1 year ago at 77 yrs old and is in great health, he can be of help in finding areas in Johnston Co./Smithfield. Thanks so much for your response. Look forward to meeting you. Eddie Brannan 707 McGukin Rd. Bremen, Georgia 30110

    3. Hi Donna and all, I sit on the sidelines and observe a lot of the email that goes back and forth. I live in Texas and started doing a little genealogical research last summer. My folks now live in Goldsboro, NC, so when I visited them, they took me on a tour of Pauline Cemetery in Johnston County. I find it all so interesting, but haven't been able to find any additional ancestral info from those sending email back and forth. Any hints for me on finding information on my family lines? I'm not sure I'm getting full use of my resources. For instance, when Family Tree (or whoever) posts a message saying there may be info on a cd-rom that you purchase from them, I have been skeptical and haven't tried it. Should I? Is that the way most people are getting their info? Appreciate your help . . . here's what I have from my own family line: *William Baker (my great great grandfather) Children: George Manley Baker and Doll Baker *George Manley Baker (born 1867) married Alice Jane Edwards (born 1876) (my great grands)(buried in Pauline Cemetery) Their Children: Lula (married John Phillips) Sudie (married Percy Smith) William Elbert Baker (married Nettie Bass) *Bessie Evelyn Baker (married John Thomas Myers)(my grands) Ida Geneva Baker (married James Ira Brown) Needham Gilbert Baker (married Mary Lee Capps) Zora Mae Baker (married Charlie Henson Dudley) Samuel Willis Baker (married Mary) Lloyd Junio Baker (married Myrtle Denning) *Bessie Evelyn Baker (and John Thomas Myers) *Child: Donna Lucille (Aubrey Reeves) *Child: Terry >From: Donna Sherron <tdsherron@cs.com> >Reply-To: NCJOHNST-L@rootsweb.com >To: NCJOHNST-L@rootsweb.com >Subject: [NCJOHNST] Hill >Date: Wed, 25 Oct 2000 05:49:21 -0700 >Received: from [63.92.80.125] by hotmail.com (3.2) with ESMTP id >MHotMailBBC0224300BBD820F3B83F5C507D089F0; Wed Oct 25 05:51:16 2000 >Received: (from slist@localhost)by lists6.rootsweb.com (8.10.1/8.10.1) id >e9PCoet21362;Wed, 25 Oct 2000 05:50:40 -0700 >From NCJOHNST-L-request@rootsweb.com Thu Oct 26 01:57:28 2000 >Resent-Date: Wed, 25 Oct 2000 05:50:40 -0700 >X-Original-Sender: gc-gateway@rootsweb.com Wed Oct 25 05:50:37 2000 >Message-Id: <200010251249.e9PCnL819699@cgi.rootsweb.com> >Old-To: NCJOHNST-L@rootsweb.com >Sender: tdsherron@cs.com >Resent-Message-ID: <aroHXC.A.VLF.fct95@lists6.rootsweb.com> >Resent-From: NCJOHNST-L@rootsweb.com >X-Mailing-List: <NCJOHNST-L@rootsweb.com> archive/latest/2622 >X-Loop: NCJOHNST-L@rootsweb.com >Precedence: list >Resent-Sender: NCJOHNST-L-request@rootsweb.com > >Posted on: Johnston Co. 2. The most successful method I have used in tracing my ancestors, is digging through census records, wills, and land records. The more info you can find, the more possibility you will connect to someone researching the same family. I had great luck researching land records and posting the ones pertaining to my ancestors on the appropriate mailing list. I recently attended a family reunion in NC, I met the famlies sponsering the reunion this way. I was able to visit the grave of my 3rd greatgrandparents b. 1767 d. 1857. It takes a lot of digging, but well wprth it. Barbara of Ca

    3. Posted on: Johnston Co. NC Queries Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/NC/Johnston/1894 Surname: Talton, Tarlton, Tarleton ------------------------- Susan... James Talton who died in 1803 married Sarrah Almond in 1799 in Johnston County NC. This James Talton was a son of Old William Tarlton,(Sr.) who died ca.1791. Sarrah Almond was a ward of Old William Tarlton-Talton at one time. James Talton, Jr. married in 1807 Nancy Pool Spivey and after James Talton, Jr. died she is listed in Old William Tarlton-Talton, (Sr.) final 1815 Estate settlement as an heir and I assume James Talton, Jr. died before 1815. Nancy's thrid husband was Alexander Smith of Johnston Co. NC. The above Sarrah Almond ( this is the way her names is spelled on my copy of there orginal marriage Bond that I located at the Archives in Raleigh NC. many years ago. I have just found the documentation on James Talton, Jr. and I thought when I sent this information to Gail and Sean I included you, also. This James Talton had a wife before he married Sarrah Almond and he did not have any children by her as I could find in my detailed research over the years. I hope this helps and I am getting mail that list a lot of things, esp. list of children I have no idea who they belong to or where they came from for their is never any dates -place or needed information for trying to locate them. Good luck to you and if I can help you let me know. Westa Talton Morris
