    3. Betty Pace: I can't speak for research in VA, but I can speak for NC. I have been researching in Wake, Johnston and Harnet counties, mainly, for about 11 years and I have found NC to be very generous with their genealogy information. I have now been doing research in MD on my mother's family and when calling around I found restrictions and laws on what info I could and couldn't have access to in MD. I told the people at the MD State Archives, the type of info I have received from NC and I was told "Honey, don't even think your going to get that kind of help or information from MD." I, for one, feel very lucky to have been researching in a state that is really into the genealogy aspect of their state. I always had fond memories of NC while growing up, then when visiting their last year, I can say that everyone was still just as friendly and were so willing to help me. I stopped and talked to strangers, who went out of their way to give me directions, or to tell me that I might want to try this small cemetery, or that cemetery. HURRAY FOR NC!!! Keep up the good work. Diane Keiser (Direct descendant of Etheldred Pollard, of Wake and Johnston Co.) Betty A. 1. [NCJOHNST] . Addendum reUniv. of VA digital Library site
    2. Betty A. Pace
    3. A more complete way than I knew. See below. Betty Pace --------- Begin forwarded message ---------- From: Janmim@aol.com To: bapace2@juno.com Subject: Re: Imp. Addendum reUniv. of VA digital Library site Date: Tue, 7 Nov 2000 09:12:59 EST Hello Everyone, I have an important addendum to Betty's post that I don't think she pointed out. Once you get to an index card that interests you, you can download (retrieve document link above the card) a handwritten 'copy' of the original deed, with all the specific geographical information, neighbors, etc. The owner of course got the original. As someone recently said on Va-Southside....This is "as good as it gets" from the comfort of your home. Be forewarned though, it is VERY timeconsuming, and the images take up alot of computer space, so I've done several on floppies. In a message dated 11/7/00 8:48:19 AM Eastern Standard Time, bapace2@juno.com writes: << , I tried the Digital Library of the University of VA web site; http://www.lva.lib.va.us/dlp/index.htm There I clicked on Land Records and then clicked on the name "PACE" and turned up cards on land records for Paces in colonial VA. . They seem to be in alphabetical order by first name after you search for your surname. If you know that you have very early ancestors in VA , you might try the same technique for your people.. There is also information on ships and passenger lists (plus crew) for some of the early ships to VA under Colonial Records. >> ________________________________________________________________ YOU'RE PAYING TOO MUCH FOR THE INTERNET! 2. Betty A. Pace
    3. Until recently I have only been on the North Carolina U.S. GenWeb Sites. However, I have recently begun exploring the very early counties in Virginia: James City, Charles City, etc. What I encountered in the VA counties was a request to register and be issued a password. I had a feeling that the next step was to enter a credit card number and to be charged a fee. This I noticed on the Digital Library sections of these VA counties. Is NC just more generous in sharing genealogy material? Does anyone have a thought about this? Maybe I misinterpreted the intent of the registration, but I never intend to give my credit card number over the internet. 1. [NCJOHNST] Joshua Lamb and Jacob Lamb, Sr.
    2. Faye
    3. Joshua Lamb received one of the earliest land grants in 1744 in what later became Wilson County. Old Dobbs County BOOK 6 - April 1758 - April 1765 Joshua Lamb to Joel Dickerson pg 54 Few records have ever been found about this Joshua Lamb. According to this, he was in the area at least until 1758, at least 14 years. Jacob Lamb, Sr. settled in Old Dobbs County and his family eventually, after county boundary changes also ended up in Wilson County. He also is shown with a land transaction: Jacob Lamb to Thomas Briggs, pg 544. Does anyone know anything about Joel Dickerson or Thomas Briggs? ftp://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/nc/johnston/land/book6.txt Faye

    2. Freda, No, I don't know if my Solomons were ever in Alabama. I have a complete blank on them before Henry Solomon showed up in Brownsville, TN, in the mid-1800's. His daughter moved to Hardeman County, TN, after her marriage. Thanks for checking. Bob

    3. Gail, my ggggrandfather was John G. Solomon. Did we exchange Solomon data? Can't remember. I have been in the frustrating business of moving all our files from our old computer to our new and at this point, I don't remember what we have exhanged. Just recently I have received some interesting letters on a John G. Solomon born at the same time as ours. Are you interested? I would like to know the names of the Solomons that you have. Some of us think John G. Solomon's wife was Sarah Godbold and are trying to prove that. Stay in touch. 2. Freda, I also need to research more in Sampson Co. That's where the Hills lived that ggg-gf Lovard Lee married into. I've been to their website. Maybe we need to join their mailing list too--seems like our people were definitely traveling together. BTW--on the 1830 Wilcox Co. census, ggg-gf Loverd Lee lived next door to a ROBERSON Hawthorn. http://genforum.genealogy.com/nc/sampson/ http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncsampso/index.htm Mail List--Subscribing.Try these manual instructions: to join NCSAMPSO-L, send mail to NCSAMPSO-L-request@rootsweb.com with the single word subscribe in the message subject and body.
