I'm seeking any info on the descendants of John D. CREECH & Lucinda E. BATTEN, m: 18 Mar 1875, Johnston Co, NC. They are my 2nd ggrandparents. Their son, William Everette CREECH (1878-1963), is my ggrandfather. I have no further info on the above couple. Would like a complete list of children & other descendants, birth/death dates, burial place, siblings, etc. All I have on my CREECH line is an outline descendant chart that does not include any siblings. Would like to correspond with any Johnston Co CREECH researchers, especially if descended from John D. CREECH. Thanks for any help/info with this line. Susan Michael widget@carolina.rr.com

Yes, they do have, I believe, 3 folders of info on the Holts at the JCHS. I was there last year and was going thru them to try and find my ggrandfather, William Holt who m. Frances Parrish. I found a copy of William's obit in one of the folders. At the time there were 3 rather thick folders to look thru. By any chance, does anyone working on the Holt line know of this William Holt and Frances Parrish? Their dau. Gertrude Holt (m. Ulyses Harrison "HP" Pollard) is my grandmother. I am not sure which county listing it was on, so forgive me if it is a repeat for several of you. I was cleaning up my files and saving to a zip disk when I came across this one. I have not gone to the links provided in the newsletter. I have nothing to do with the links, and I cannot help anyone more than just providing you with the address for the sites. Even though the main subject is about Brazoria Co. Texas, I think the other links might be of help outside of Texas. I thought it was worth sending in hopes of helping someone. I think having to research ancestors that were slaves, or if you were adopted out, would have to be two of the hardest researches to conduct. So when I get frustrated or against a brick wall, I think of those that have more obstacles to overcome, and it makes my wall seem more like a fence. Barbara * * * EVERTON'S FAMILY HISTORY NEWSLINE Slavery in Brazoria County Those who are tracing their slave ancestors may initially be discouraged by the paucity of "normal" records available for research. Slave census schedules often fail to name individuals, for example. And yet there are still many resources available to help genealogists trace their slave ancestors. An excellent online example of the depth and breadth of research material available is "The Enslaved People of Patton Plantation", prepared in precise detail by Cary Cordova and published on the World Wide Web by Texas Parks and Wildlife. This fascinating and helpful website provides data resolved from tax rolls, deeds, probate minutes, personal narratives, bonds, censuses and other sources to document the slaves that worked on the Patton Plantation and their lives. Among the most interesting features are the lists of freedmen and slaves, each of which is arranged alphabetically, and each of which provides reference documentation of the individual in the records used for this project. The family who owned the plantation is also remembered through a short summary of the pertinent Patton generations. If your own ancestry runs through Brazoria County, Texas, you will definitely want to visit this website. And if you have slaves in your family's past you will want to check it out to learn what records may be available for your own research, and how you can use them to reconstruct the history of your family. Dear Friends, I have posted the PITTMAN DATA BANK compilation of the Descendants of Capt. Thomas Pitman for the world to see. It is not finished, yet, but how can it ever be? http://www.familytreemaker.com/users/w/i/l/Beverly--C-Williamson/index.html PITTMAN DATA BANK is the collaborative work of hundreds of genealogists who have written to me in the years since 1985. This compilation of the descendants of Capt. Thomas Pittman is presented as the most current assessment of these families and is presented here as the groundwork for future research in this area. I do not guarantee that every assumption is accurate, and I heartily encourage all readers to submit any information that will improve upon it. The material will be reviewed and updated as often as new information is received. Remember, this genealogy has been compiled from both published references and private researchers. You should carefully verify any information that you decide to use in your own lineage. Please look at it, and tell me where the typos are.
