Descendants of John Lee, Esq Generation No. 1 1. JOHN1 LEE, ESQ Notes for JOHN LEE, ESQ: [NOTE: "Esquire" doesn't necessarily mean Lawyer, as most people think. It can also mean a land owner ("landed gentry" or "well landed").] ========== Date: Mon, 26 Jun 2000 18:49:15 EDT From: KLWRAGEG@aol.com To: LEE-L@rootsweb.com I know from the "horse's mouth" (Lazelle Parsons Long), one of the 4 compilers of the booklet "John Lee, Esq. of Johnston Co., NC and Some of His Descendants", that the title of Esquire was simply chosen by the compilers in order to distinguish this particular John Lee from a host of others. Incidentally, he was well landed. Lazelle and I worked together for some years & that was her answer to me. KAY G. -------- Original Message -------- Subject: {not a subscriber} John D. Creech and Lucinda Batten Date: Tue, 21 Nov 2000 08:04:53 -0800 From: ALBATTEN@aol.com To: NCJOHNST-L@rootsweb.com Susan Michael and Bev, This is what I have on a John Devereaux Creech who married Lucinda Batten in 1875. Certainly, I am open to corrections on all of this. I thought I had it right, perhaps not. John D. Creech (b. 1855 d. 1917) married Lucinda Tresceny Batten (b. 1854 d. 1894) Married in 1875. I did not know the children of this marriage. I have John D. Creech as the son of Jesse S. Creech, Jr and Mary Ann "Polly" Wall (b. 1814.) Jesse Jr. b. 1824 d. 1896. Married April 9, 1847. Jesse Jr. was the son of Jesse Creech Sr. and Margaret Worley. I do have a question mark on Jesse Creech Jr. as to whether he had a relationship with someone else which resulted in a male child. Don't recall where that came from or if there is anything to it at all. But I don't have anything to indicate John D. Creech as having any other spouses. Let me know if this makes sense to you. I will dig further back and check my sources on this. Amy Batten

Fellow Thornton researcher's, I have some info. that shows a William Tarleton who lived in Isle of Wight was over 21 in 1717 (to be a witness I think you had to be 21 ) . So is this the son of William if so then his birthdate would be before 1710 closer to 1696 at least? THAT means he would of been 95 ? years old when he died. OR am I reading this wrong and he was b. in 1700 as he signed the paper in 1721 then he would of been 91 years of age. I can't tell what year in 1717 or in 1721 did he have to be on record and be 21 years old ( ? when the paper was D. (dated ? ) or R. ( registered ? ) , signed in 1721 as a witness ?? Has anyone else found any records of William T.as witness's other then this one?? THANK you, Gail Then I have another copy of record showing the elder Roger & wife Margaret in 1717 also. Earp, Young, Eason, Pittman and Godwin Bible Record (From Ronney G. Earp, 7 March 2000) The following Bible information was submitted to me by Billy Franklin Young of Raleigh, N.C. in February 2000. The Bible was owned by his grandmother, Sallie Arphelia Earp who married Burley Franklin Young in Johnston County, North Carolina on September 11, 1910. The publisher and copywright date are unknown. This Bible also contains early reference to Sallies ancestors, Edward Earp and Sealy Earp who were her great-grandparents. Further clues on Edward and Sealy Earp can be found in Genealogical Abstracts of Revolutionary War Pension Files Vol IV, Abstracted by Virgil D. White The National Publishing Company, Waynesboro, Tennessee, 1992. One entry list Edward Earp. It reads: Earp, Edward S42468, NC Line, app 24 Feb 1823 Johnston Cty NC where he had lived for 8 to 10 yrs & was aged 78, with a wife Celia aged 76 & a daughter (Luiza or Lucina) aged 24 & her child Zela Ann Smith aged 4 whose father James Smith had gone off to a foreign country. The above Zela is believed to be Thula who is listed on the 1850 Johnston County North Carolina Census in the household of Garry and Rhoda Holliman. Her age of 32 matches the above Zelas date of birth. Thula Earp and William Sherrod Earp were the parents of William Gaston Earp, my great grandfather. William Gaston Earp was born May 28, 1849 and died April 1900. For further information on the Earps and numerous other Johnston County surnames see my book, Earp Genealogy The Old North State Connection, published 1998 with a copy submitted to the Johnston County Room. Additionally, I have requested copies of this Bible information be placed in the following surname files: Earp, Young, Eason, Pittman and Godwin. The Bible starts with births, marriages and deaths. Each page is split in two and the transcription will follow left to right as the entries were made. Posted on: Johnston Co. NC Queries Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/NC/Johnston/1959 Surname: SASSER, JONES ------------------------- Thank you. I am a direct descendant and know what follows Malinda Sasser and her husband, my g-g-grandfather, Millington Blalock Jones. I, too, want to know from where the SASSERs came. I am fairly certain the name is German. Also, there were SASSERs in early eastern shore Maryland records.
YOU WROTE: i was born in nashville tenn usa my father was frederic william faircloth of murfreesbore tenn usa he died shotly after i was born 7-12 37 %%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% Kathryn, (I assume that's your name anyway.) Is there a specific reason you asked about your dad in the mail group for Johnston County, NC? <like...did he die there?> I take it that you have little info on your dad. Can your mom help? Try seeing if you can find things out from the county the FAIRCLOTHs were in. If you can find his dob or dod, you should get his birth/death certificate which will tell you his parents names. I believe the death certificate also lists the birthday. Another thing you can try is going through the censuses for the years he probably lived in that county. See if there's a Historical organization for the county he was in...or Tennessee. You also might try the Family History Center (FHC) nearest you. They have oodles of info available and many of the people who are there have done this for years and are VERY willing to be of help. Jack, You also might write the Boyett list at Roots Web (BOYETT-L@rootsweb.com). Quite a few BOYETTEs are related to SASSER and have a handful of info on them. Posted on: Johnston Co. NC Queries Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/NC/Johnston/1958 Surname: ------------------------- In your family tree have you ever run across a Traywick or Traweek that married into the Fiveash line. There were two boys, George and William and maybe a Goodrich. Also are you any kin to any Bethea or Barnes? The lady's name may have been Nancy Fiveash. This would have been around the early 1800's. They left Perquimans into Johnston and ended up in Robeson County. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Helen

If not try this: http://www.familytreemaker.com/users/s/a/s/Don-L-Sasser/ODT5-0002/html or send an email to Sasser-L@rootsweb and subscribe to the Sasser page. It's free. Just write subscribe in body of post, nothing else. We are trying to find exactly where the Sassers came from. Write to Don Sasser, I'm thinking he might have discovered it by now. Johnston County was the origin before Kentucky. Hope this helped a little. If you can't get through to this line, let me know. Helen
