Searching for the descendants of Aaron JOHNSON/JOHNSTON & Martha 0'NEAL, married 1 March 1796 in Johnston County NC. The will of Martha's father, Moses O'NEAL, indicates that they had five children by 1812. Jean Shanelec shanelec@informatics.net ----- Original Message ----- From: "Lonnie T. Hello, copied a portion of an e mail about Averet line. I am wondering if anyone knows who Richard Ingram belongs to in this notation. THANKS Gail Ps looking for Nancy Ingram's line she was m. to Samuel Thornton b. 1828 son of David Thornton from Sampson lived in Wayne co. NC. Samuel Thornton lived in Johnston co. NC also. In the meantime you might want to know that William Avera, the son of Thomas Avera, SR, testator of 1761, married Elizabeth Ingram, the daughter of Richard Ingram, and not a Sarah Pritchet. Also, one must be cautious about using DAR data for Avera/Averyt/Avery Patriots from Johnston CO NC. I have found a number of significant errors in this particular material.
As a long-term Avera, Avery, Averyt, et. al. researcher. I would not put much stock in how the surname is spelled in the various generations. That has proven to be a misleading criteria for establishing descendancy charts. There seem to be certain exceptions to this. For example, the spelling of Averyt is often, though not always, associated with Alexander Averyt and his younger brother Daniel Averyt of Johnston Co NC and not with other Avera/Avery lines. However, you mention Jacob Avera and Daniel Averyt in your first query. They were actually brothers. I know a lot about Daniel Averyt's Revolutionary War experience because he was in the Continental Line and because some detail is given about him and his brother Alexander in the rejected Pension application of a Nahor Norris. I know nothing about Jacob Avera/Averyt except who he married and the fact that he was the brother of Alexander Averyt and Daniel. Perhaps, Phyllis Mistrot has researched your family line from your grandmother Esther Avery and know how Esther connects to the Averas, Averies, and Averyts that you mention in your first query--all of whom seem to be from Johnston Co NC. If this is true, I can help you fill in some blanks about them. I did not offer to help you before because I had no idea who Esther Avery was or how she connected to the Revolutionary War eara folks. How far back can you reliably track your Avery/Avera line? That is the key to getting you question answered. Right now I am tracking a family who seemed to have preferred the spelling of Avery in the earlier generation but preferred Avera in the later generations. They started out Avery in Johnston Co NC but wound up Avera bu the time of the Civil War in GA and KY.
