If you have not recieved a reply yet, this was the way they recorded deeds. The seller and buyer and witnesses would go to court and testify before a judge that the seller sold a piece of land containing so many acres and that it was sold for the price stated and that they witnessed the transaction. If the judge found everything in order then he would have the deed accepted as legal and record it in the books. If there was not a agreement then the judge would investigate the matter. Any person found not being on the up and up could be arrested for fraud or fined money. 3. I searched the web site: http://www.americanrevolution.org/ There are many links to various battles, naval and land. The site is searchable and has many rosters, plus descriptions of battles. Link to Loyalists: http://www.royalprovincial.com/military/rhist/ncregts/nclist.htm The above web link doesn't work on Loyalist NC militia for Battle of Shallow Ford Oct. 1780. but I left a message in the guest book and perhaps they can fix it. NC Queries Forum Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/NC/Johnston/2025 Surname: WILKINS ------------------------- Lucy Ann Wilkins Emery does not appear in my files. The Wilkins families of Wake County seem to be from the Orange County area, and I have not done any work there. I have quite a large file on the Wilkins Families of Johnston County, which all started with Alfred Wilkins and his kin who moved there from Robeson County NC about 1840. cyberbev@earthling.net

    1. [NCJOHNST] James Henry Wilkins
    2. Bev Williamson
    3. Posted on: Johnston Co. NC Queries Forum Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/NC/Johnston/2024 Surname: WILKINS, HOWELL ------------------------- Henry W. WILKINS was married about 1845 to Sarah "Sallie" HOWELL of Wayne County, North Carolina. Proof of Sarah's surname was discovered by Frances G. HOWELL (Route 5 Box 585, Goldsboro, NC 27530), and published in her book, The Early Howells of Wayne County, North Carolina, Book 1, Henry Howell, His Descendants, and Some Allied Lines. Sarah was the only child of David T. HOWELL and Hannah HINES. David T. HOWELL, a son of Abraham HOWELL who died in 1794 in Wayne County, was born about 1776, possibly in Johnston County. He died about 1837-38 in Wayne County. Hannah HINES was a daughter of Joshua HINES, who died in 1822-23 in Wayne County. When Joshua HINES wrote his will, he named his daughter Hannah among his children. In an 1823 petition by some of Joshua's children, Hannah is referred to as "the wife of David T. HOWELL." In 1825 Sarah HINES, the widow of Joshua HINES, wrote her will naming her daughter Hannah HOWELL and her granddaughter Sarah HOWELL. In 1838 Hannah HOWELL, widow of David HOWELL, petitioned the Wayne County court for her widow's dower. This action named "Sarah HOWELL, infant heir at law." By 1848 Hannah HOWELL had died, and court proceedings named Sarah WILKINS, "the wife of Henry WILKINS," as her sole heir. An account of the sale of the property of Hannah HOWELL was given at the 13 September 1848 Court of Wayne County, at which time Sarah WILKINS was given as the sole heir and requested that the land be sold. The property appears to have consisted of about 60 acres on Charles Branch, adjoining Christopher HINES, Isaiah WIGGS, and others. We can only wonder at their decision to sell this land, since Henry W. and Sarah WILKINS seem never to have owned any other property. Furthermore, my grandfather told me many times that his grandmother was named Sallie Howell, and that she was from Wayne County. Mrs. Howell's research in the book cited above was a long time in coming, but I never doubted that she would be a Howell when the relationship was finally proved! Henry & Sallie's children: 1. WILKINS Hannah, (born about 1846) she lived with with her parents until at least 1870. After that, nothing more is known. 2. WILKINS John B., (ca 1848-Jan 1900) married Susannah FIELDS. 3. WILKINS Alfred, (b ca 1854) lived with his parents until about age 5; he apparently died young. 4. WILKINS James Henry, (5 May 1855-10 March 1910) married Sarah Bonner JORDAN. 5. WILKINS David Howell, (b ca 1855) married Harriett JONES. 6. WILKINS Mariah, (ca 1861-30 January 1901) married James P. PRICE. 7. WILKINS Buck Davis, (Jan 1866-12 January 1943) married Emma ODOM, Minnie EASON and Sudie Geneva GOODMAN. 8. WILKINS Sarah Ann, (10 October 1856-18 June 1919) married George WISE. 9. WILKINS Edith Jane, (7 August 1865-27 September 1940) married James Abraham CAPPS. My grandfather, Joseph Henry Wilkins, was the youngest child of James Henry Wilkins and Sarah Bonner Jordan. cyberbev@earthling.net

    1. [NCJOHNST] WAR OF 1812 - TENN. etc
    2. Betty A. Pace
    3. On my free trial on www.Ancestry.com, I just found an Alsa/Alsey PACE on the War of 1812 Muster Rolls but he served in Coffee's Regiment, Cav., W. Tennessee Vols. Can anyone tell me how to research the War of 1812 when I don't know the county in TN. He would later settle in Johnston Co., NC, and his family would be in Guilford Co., NC, and later in Rowan Co., NC. I searched the USGenWeb.com site for Tenn. but could find no entry for the musters of the War of 1812. Parker, Clk. Milton Childers went by M.J. (and sometimes J.M. Childers) mustered from Warren in 1861 Confederate Army(age 18). He was in the Company I, 2nd Reg. I just got his death certificate last week and it listed his father as Andrew (born in MS). Today I got his pension and it states that he mustered from Bradley Co. AR. His name on the marriage bond is Joshua Milton Childers (he did not use an "e" in his name Milton). From his death certificate we learned that his father was Andrew Childers. I am looking for any relatives of his children listed below: I have very little information on Edward, Rosa, Betty, George, and Joseph Carl family lines. 3. Betty Pace: This is legit. I have subscribed to the free subscriptions many times. When it is free, they have never asked me for my credit card number. I'm a member, but not for the census records. So, I would suggestion that anyone that is interested, go for any of the records that would normally have to be paid for.
