I have not found him in 1850 or 1840 Census. This has really been a brick wall for me. Jack was born in 1833-37, LDS says in NC with William as father and Mary as mother. I think perhaps the family moved from TN to AL. Would certainly appreciate it if you could find time to check what you have on Talton's in TN. 3. Beverly, Based on what you shared in your response to my rather long and disjointed message, "his daughter" should read "her daughter" in the excerpt below? Could you share with me more of the family tree for your Sarah McKinnie or is it McKinne? I do not know where Susannah Blackman fits in, etc, etc. I was sharing Virginia Howell's research notes which I have had for several years. I cut and pasted them from a Word document that she sent to me a long time ago. I made no attempt to correct any typos or other mistakes because I do not have access to the original documents. Virginia was a thorough researcher but had a mass of material that she tried to type up. I am sure that there are other unintentional mistakes. Thanks for correcting this one. But did I understand you correctly? Base on the Petition to the Court about the division of part of the the Estate of Nancy Ingram, widow of Needham Ingram, Sr., a Sarah McKinnie is named as a possible heir. As best I can make out she would be the granddaughter of Needham and Nancy Ingram, Sr. But apparently she is a different Sarah McKinnie who married Michael McKinnie and lived in MS. Is that correct? or Do you kinow anything about this Sarah McKinnie? Your Sarah McKinnie was married to John McKinnie. Is that correct? Tenn. # chldn: 8 .. +Nancy King b: May 27, 1777 in Sampson Co NC d: July 1855 in Ingram Cemetery, McNairy Co. Gail As I have stated in previous messages, I owe a great debt to Virginia Howell of TN for sharing with me her extensive research on some of the descendants of William Ingram (Will 1771) who went to TN. I hope that text of a 1997 Email from Virginia will be helpful to you and will help settle the puzzle about the various William Ingrams that you and Freda have been discussing. "Hello Franklin, I am descended from William Ingram, Joseph Ingram, Needham Ingram who md Sarah King and moved to McNairy and Hardeman Co, TN in about 1830. I have all my miscellaneous notes entered through the Microsoft Word program. I entered it chronologically. I believe that William and Richard Ingram of early Johnston Co, NC were the sons of Roger Ingram of Isle of Wight Co, VA. I did not follow the Lees or Averas. William Ingram first married a daughter of John Lee and had at least one child, Shadrack Ingram. He then married an Elizabeth and had my Joseph Ingram and I just forgot his sisters names. Virginia Howell" Apparently you and Freda have kin that come from the same William Ingram (1771) but your kin are through Joseph to Needham and Freda's kin are through Joseph to William Ingram (1790-1860). (William to Joseph to William.) William went to AL and Needham went to TN. Of course your Needham had a son named William Ingram, but he was a grandson of William Ingram (1771). See notes below. (William to Joseph to Needham to William) I do not believe that Virginia was right in claiming Roger Ingram of Isle of Wight Co VA as the father of William Ingram (1771). On the other hand I could not prove that Virginia was wrong. She was not convinced that she was right either but she leaned towards believing it and I leaned towards not believing it. The other issue that we shared research data about was the relationship between William Ingram (1771 Will) and Richard Ingram (1780 Will). Virginia thought that they were brothers but had no proof. I think they were related and certainly were neighbors in Johnston Co NC but I have no reason to think that they were brothers. Among Virginia's research notes is the following that you might find of interest if you do not already have information: "16 Mar 1829 - Johnston Co/NC - Vol 0-2, p.207 -208 - deeds. Know all men by those presents that I, Needham Ingram Sr for myself and in right of my wife Nancy Ingram at present of the county of Johnston, in the state of North Carolina do hereby nominate constitute and appoint Adin Powell of the same places our true & lawful attorney for us & in our names to ask demand sue for recover and ... off & from William Ashford of the county of Sampson & state of North Carolina, administrator of the estate of Sally King late of Wayne County , decd all money that is or may become due us as legatees of the estate of the said Sally King deceased, or any kind of estate real or personal that we are entitled to as legatees ... which I the said Needham Ingram Sr have or may have in rights of my wife Nancy as ... or any money or effects of Sally King decd in the hands of William Ashford as .... and I the said Needham Ingram Sr for myself do as aforesaid do hereby constitute the said Adin Powell my attorney irrevocable to take & procure all lawful ways & means whatsoever for the recovery of the share or portion of the estate of the said Sally King, deceased to which I may be entitled to as ... in right of my wife ... & from the said administrator hereby authorizing the said attorney to ... any right or discharge in & about the said premises and to make any arguments bargain or compromise in relation thereunto & to use my name & the name of my wife for the above purposes. .... can't read.... 3. Freda, I do not believe that your William Ingram who married first Bethany Lee and second Nancy Lee Johnson had a son named Shadrack. The Shadrack Ingram who was the son of William Ingram, Testator of 1771, was the grandson of John Lee Esq who signed his Will in 1766. (Researchers who are devoted to documenting the multitude of John Lee Esq's descendants refer to him simply as JLX.) William Ingram, Testator of 1771, married first a daughter of JLX (John Lee, Esq.--Will 1766) and had Shadrack and probably Elizabeth Ingram. He married second Elizabeth (unknown last name) and had Joseph, Mary (Polly) and Hester. JLX also had a grandson named John Lee, Sr who signed his Will in 1835. He was the father of Bethany Lee Ingram. JLX also had a grandson named Jeremiah Lee who signed his Will in 1823. He was the father of Nancy Lee Johnson Ingram. Therefore, John Lee, Sr (Will 1835), Jeremiah Lee (Will 1823) and Shadrack Ingram (Will 1827) were all grandsons of JLX (John Lee, Esq.--Will 1766). However, you descend from Joseph Ingram (the half-brother of Shadrack Ingram) whose son, William Ingram (1790-1860), married two Lee cousins who were both great granddaughters of JLX (John Lee, Esq.--Will 1766). I have proven that Nancy Lee Johnson did indeed marry William Ingram (1790-1860) but I have only circumstantial evidence that William Ingram (1790-1860) married Bethany Lee. Bethany Lee definitely married an Ingram according to her father's Will. Her father was John Lee, Sr. (Will 1835). Do you have any proof that Bethany Lee did indeed marry William Ingram (1790-1860) as opposed to some other Ingram fellow? Nancy Lee Johnson (married first to Littleton Johnson) definitely married an Ingram according to her father's Will. Her father was Jeremiah Lee (Will 13 Apr 1823). The proof that she married William Ingram is a marriage bond dated 20 Jan 1823. The Marriage Bond and the Will are consistent and, I think, together provide proof of the tree. These are the relevant Lee descendancy charts: (1) JLX to Edward Lee to Jeremiah Lee to Nancy Lee who married first Littleton Johnson and then William Ingram. (Proven with wills of JLX (1766), Edward Lee (1775), and Jeremiah Lee (1823) and two marriage bonds for Nancy Lee and Nancy Johnson.) (2) JLX to Edward Lee to John Lee, Sr. to Bethany Lee who married William Ingram. (Proven with wills of JLX (1766), Edward Lee (1775) and John Lee, Sr. (1835), but I do not have actual proof of the William Ingram to Bethany Lee marriage.) (3) JLX to unknown Lee (married William Ingram, Testator of 1771) to Shadrack Ingram. (Proven with the wills of JLX (1766) and William Ingram (1771.))
