He was a sheriff in Bedford County Tennessee and rec. this letter...as follows...Clayton, NC, June 1868 Mr. Phillips, my Dear Friend tho not personally acquainted with you I have to request a favour of you I have heard by letters from my son Ransom GILLEY that you were the administrator of my poor Son Calvin C. Gilly that was murdered in that State. I am his administrator in this country his land has been sold and if you have the deed I gave him please send it to me as it is no servis to you & if you have not got it please inform me what went with it. I think I gave him a deed for 171 or 200 acres on the Rail Road I sold it under an order of the court and his younger brother bot it please inform me if Calvin owed any think in your county please answer me soon and oblige a friend. yours truly Jon G. I have the records from the National Archives for Rufus D. Wall.He was my great grandma's brother.I've been wondering just who else in the family was in the army,as I found more Wall men on an on-line database,and they were in the 24th out of Johnston County.Figured they would be Rufus Wall's brothers or cousins,but a lack of middle name info makes it hard to be sure,unless you already knew. I forwarded my Wall info to your address minutes ago. Have heard the Wall family is Scottish but don't know it for a fact. I'm very glad to see others in my Wall family popping up.One of my big interests is finding all my Confederate soldier kinfolks,and maybe we can get them all I.D.'d for sure. I do believe that the 24th N.C. Inf. Reg. Co. C. is a hotbed of family relations for a lot of us with Johnston County ancestry.
