I locate my ancestor, F.T. Phillips on the 1860 Census for Boon Hill, page 859, showing him to be a Merchant. Is there anyway to find out what kind of merchant? It also shows his value of personal estate to be 4,637 and I would like to know what that is equivalent to in todays dollars. Thank you.

NC Queries Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/NC/Johnston/12294 Surname: Lee, White, Eason ------------------------- Hi all...trying to find my gggrandmother and gggrandfather. My ggrandma, Carrie Della Lee, was born on 11/9/1874 in Bertie county,NC. She was married to Charles Solon White born 8/13/1874 Bertie country,NC. I'm told that my gggrandfather was Robert Lee born appox.1848 in NC and my gggranmother was Elizabeth Lee(possible her name was not Elizabeth) born approx.1850 in NC. A lot of our line seems to spring from Johnston County as well, so I am checking for both Bertie and Johnston County. Carrie's and Charles' daughter, Ethel Grace White (my grandma, b. 5/1914), married James Atlas Eason (b. 6/30/1910), son of William Turner Eason, son of Enley Eason. As in most Lee families, the legend goes that Carrie's mother remembers "uncle Robert [E. Lee]" coming to dinner, so we're trying to pencil in the connection there as well. Also, Carrie and Charles(my ggrandparents) cared for a woman referred to as Granny Lee in their home. It is unknown if this Granny Lee was indeed Elizabeth. She died approx.1923. Would appreciate any information that anyone might have on Robert and Elizabeth Lee of NC. Thank you, -Michele Eason

John James sold his part of the orginal grant land near Memorial Church Road west of Fremont and bought 1000 acres north of Fremont just into Wilson County near Ray Vick's store. Will you send you husband's line. I have the Aycock book and should be able to determine exact relation. I had the opportunity to visit our ancestral town in England, Acock's Green, and the old family church in Yardley. This is the church Catherine of Aragon attended following her divorce from Henry VIII. The church was begun in the 13th century. Let me hear from you. There is one person I know who may have known Allen. I know she knew William Green. I also have a story to tell you about Patience Mariah. Thanks for your interest and for keeping the light. Steven

Posted on: Johnston Co. NC Queries Forum Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/NC/Johnston/12283 Surname: Mitchell ------------------------- Steven, Your info filled in a few missing names. Is who you are calling Willie Mitchell actually James Wiley Mitchell (b 2/1826), who married Mary Ann (Polly) Pierce (9/12/1838-8/4/1925)? That's the info we have as the father of William (Bill) Green Mitchell. The Johnston County info is the same as what we have. Also, we have William Matthew Mitchell as the father of James Wiley Mitchell. William Matthew is the son of George and was married to Learie (Leah?)/ . On a side note, my husband would like to know what Aycock's are you related to? His family is from the Dudley/Nahunta/Goldsboro area. Could you trace down from your GGrandfather Leonard to you so we can add it to our tree. We have a graphics Family Tree program/database. It is GEDCOM compatible. Do you have something similar? Perhaps we could trade. Thanks for the info and look forward to hearing from you. LeAnne Aycock

Posted on: Johnston Co. NC Queries Forum Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/NC/Johnston/12281 Surname: Mitchell ------------------------- Hello LeAnne - I don't know how much information you have. I believe that William Green Mitchell is the son of Willie Mitchell, who is the son of George Mitchell, US Rev. War Soldier. George received a land grant in Johnston County, between Rains Crossroads Church and Pinckney. That land still belongs to the Mitchell family. George, WG and Patience Mariah, (known as Pasha in her lifetime) are buried on that land near the intersection of Rains Crossroads Church Road and Hickory Cross Road. The cemetary is in a field behind a house and cannot be seen from the road. William Green Mitchell and Patience Mariah are my GGGrandparents also. Your GGrandfather, Allen Walter Mitchell is brother to my GGrandfather Leonard Earl Mitchell. There was also a brother named Charlie who married Addie and another named Ed. I'm hopeful this is helpful to you. Good luck. Please keep in touch. Steven Aycock

NC Queries Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/NC/Johnston/12277 Surname: HOOD, JONES, HINTON ------------------------- Did any of your JONES migrate to Dyer/Obian County area of Tennessee c 1815? I am trying to trace the paternal lineage of LEMUEL JONES. Her third husband was CHARLES HENDERSON HOOD who migrated from Johnston/Wake County, NC c 1815. Her parents were born in NC. The father apparently died early on. The mother (initial E) is listed as head of household in the 1840 and 1850 Dyer County census. I'd be happy to share and would appreciate any information concerning this JONES family. Thanks! Darlene
Dear John, Your posting on STRICKLANDs on the queries forum expressed an interest in the Strickland family. This may not be your direct line, but a SOLOMON STRICKLAND married AMY PACE (dtr of JOHN PACE + SARAH BURGE) in Edgecomb Co., NC in the late 1700s. They later moved to GA, I believe. Some of the family probably remained in the area of Edgecomb and I know some of the Pace group went to Johnston Co., NC. Does someone on this list have access to a cemetery book for Johnston County? I'm searching for a PETTUS or PETTIS or PITTES family (the parents or siblings of Elizabeth PETTUS). Elizabeth PETTUS was born in NC in 1807. She married John GILES in Johnston Co., NC January 28, 1828. There were 3 PITTES marriages in NC, all in Johnston Co.. Sally PITTES and John DUPREE (1820), Darcas PITTES and Jesse KENNEDAY (1821), Elizabeth PITTES and John GILES (1828). Who were their parents? Bill Allen <misterbill@pdq.net>
