I am descended through Justice's daughter Parazadia and her husband Frederick Johnson. Would love to know whereabouts of their graves (marked or unmarked). I've often wondered if they were buried on Justice's land since Parazadia was in line to inherit the land upon her mother's death. I've read that Justice moved to Johnston County from Granville County about 1787 and that Avasilla was his 2nd wife. Also that he had 16 children between the two wives. I have a good bit of information on Parazadia and Frederick if anyone is interested. I'm happy to share. Carla Stancil Townsend Holly Springs, NC

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/gVB.2ACI/2822.1 Message Board Post: The lands of Justice Parrish were located at or very close to present day McGee's Crossroads (intersection of Highways 50 and 210) in Pleasant Grove Township, Johnston County, NC. There is not a marked grave for Justice Parrish and his wife Avisilla. There are very few early graves in Johnston County (indeed, in most of eastern NC). The burial custom of most early settlers of this region was to bury their family members on their own land in a family cemetery. Before the late 19th century, it is rare to find marked graves with identifying inscriptions. Most early graves, if marked at all, were marked with field stones or wooden markers. The concept of church or community cemeteries did not become prevalent in eastern North Carolina until the late 19th and early 20th centuries. That is why few early Johnston County settlers have identifiable graves. Descendants of the family of Johnson Parrish (son of Justice) and his wife Martha Stephenson are buried at a family cemetery off Dixon Road, which is northwest of McGee's Crossroads. Johnson Parrish's grave is not marked however, although a foot marker (with incorrect dates) dedicated to his wife Patty placed in more recent years by a descendant can be found there.

    1. Hales School--Earpsborough
    2. Betty A. Pace
    3. Matoaka Pace was a teacher/tutor in the Earpsborough school called Hales School, founded apparently by the Earp family. Does anyone know anything about this school? When did it open in Johnston Co., NC. Apparently there was also another early school--Earpsborough School, students tutured by Mrs. Veronica Horton. I have the impression this may have been the first school, founded by a Mr. Brown. I think I also remember reading in the Johnston Co. Heritage Book that Matoaka Pace was a post mistress at one time. When? This Matoaka Pace may be connected to my Pace family of JohnstonCo., NC. Betty Pace

Surnames: AVERA RHODES RHOADES Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/gVB.2ACI/2826 Message Board Post: Trying to find a lead on Elizabeth Avera, whose marriage bond to Jonathan Rhodes was recorded in Wake County 12/22/1841. These Rhodes lived in Panther Branch, Wake, in the southeast corner, very close to Johnston County. I know Johnston was the seedbed of the Averas, so I suspect that she was from there. There were several Averas in Wake in 1840, but none of them were in Panther Branch Township. Jonathan Rhodes and Elizabeth Avera had children Andrew Jackson, Edgar Gaston, Lynn (male), Frances Mary, and Sarah Elizabeth. Jonathan was still in Panther Branch in 1880, with the two daughters.

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/gVB.2ACI/2820.2.2.1.2.1.2.1 Message Board Post: Most of the information appears correct except that I do not accept that Wilmouth Langston married Uriah Britt. Wilmouth did have a son named Uriah Pickney Britt. I have not found marriage records in Johnston County for the Rigdon Britt and Wilmouth Langston marriage. However, The Johnston County Voter Registration Records from 1902 (http://www.johnstonnc.com/jc_hc_votername.cfm) for E. P Britt (age 25) and J.M. Britt (age 27) both children of Uriah Pickney Britt, son of Wilmouth Britt, identify their ancestor as Rigdon Britt. This proved, for me, that Wilmouth was the wife of Rigdon Britt. In these records A.P. Britt (age 61) also identifies Rigdon Britt as ancestor, I am not sure how this person is related to Rigdon. Dave
