    3. Definitive I don't know---but I personally, would count the first born there, of the immigrant. Mamie ----- Original Message ----- From: "Gary Corbett" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, September 09, 2005 6:44 PM Subject: [NCJohnston] Generational Question I'm wondering what would be the correct way of determining what generation a person would be,in the state they live in. For instance,if a person moved from England to North Carolina, would they be considered a 1st generation Tarheel? Or is it determined by being born in the state? That would make the child of the immigrant be the 1st generation Tarheel. Thanks for anyone that can give a definitive answer. ==== NCJOHNST Mailing List ==== Johnston County, North Carolina NCGenWeb http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncjohnst/index.htm ============================== Search the US Census Collection. My great[x5] grandfather was Thomas Watson [b. circa 1790, NC]. I believe he was related to the Johnston county Watsons. I suspect that he may have been a son of Obediah Watson who relocated to Sumter county, SC. Thomas Watson was listed in the 1820 census of Sumter county residing not far from Obediah Watson. Children of Thomas Watson were Sarah [b. 1817], Ira [b. 1819], William [b. 1821], and Ephraim [b. 1823].

    1. Edgar Vance Barbour (Barber/Barbara) m. Alva Pearl(e) West

    3. Does anyone have any info on Edgar Vance Barbour (b. Mar 4, 1897 Johnston Co, NC; d. 1929 NC; parents: Nancy Winnifred Pollard and William Robert Barbour/Barber) who married Alva Pearl(e) West (b. Sept 18, 1901 Benson, Johnston Co, NC; d. Apr 1, 1980 Norfolk, VA; parents: Junius Vaden West and Lou Ella Hall). So far, I only have that Edgar and Alva had a daughter, Pearl(e) Louise Barbour (b. July 30, 1923 Johnston Co, NC). Alva's 2nd marriage was to Herman Talmadge Norris (b. Jan 21, 1910 Erwin, Harnett Co, NC; d. Feb 13, 1963 Norfolk, VA; parents: William Gaston Norris and Louella Weaver) Alva and Herman are both buried in Benson, Johnston Co, NC, but don't know the name of the cemetery. Edgar Vance Barbour also had a brother, Walter Z. Barbour (b. Feb 3 or 14, 1899 NC; d. July 21, 1925 NC; same parents as his brother, Edgar). Walter is buried at the Zebulon Johnson Cemetery, Ingrams, Johnston Co, NC. According to Ancestry.com - World War I Draft Registration Cards, 1917-1918, the original card says that Walter was "practically deaf and dumb". Any info on the persons above would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Diane Pollard Keiser

This process not only shares info with each other, but keeps a permanent record. I saw on message board listing for Major Howell's sons and one is Cullin b.ca 1777 md to Nancy Jones. I find Cullin in 1850 census listed as 73, which would make him b. 1777, but my Cullin is the son of Daniel Howell. Listed in Daniel's 1800 will. There seems to be about 3 Cullin's, and I've just begun looking at the items that are listed on the message board. Who do you have as the father of Cullin, and when was he born? I have a copy of Arthur Jones will and it lists dau. Nancy Howell, and also left items to Cullin Howell. Let me know if you can figure this out. I will also be looking. Thanks Jean
