Folks, The LDS Beta site is just about through testing and more and more records are online daily. However, the site is sometimes busy due the the great number of hits from researchers like us. The URL is: http://www.familysearch.org Please remember, that just because the information is from the LDS, it doesn't necessarily mean that it is correct. Check and double-check all information received from online sources. Have fun, John

If you have a JARVIS or MASON line, and would like for it to be included in my book, please send it to me. I would like for the book to be as comprehensive and inclusive as possible. I have about 200 pages of data and haven't begun the index yet. I'd like to get the text in good shape, before I begin indexing. He married Malalia Ann SELBY of South Lake, Oct. 11,1873, in Hyde Co. They appear on the Hyde Co. Census in 1880 Swan Quarter, as Rodger SMITH his wife Mahalia. They were married by Thomas M. Jones, Justice of the Peace, at William Blounts in Swan Quarter. They had three children Inna, Moses, Rosa. I'm looking for descendants and ancestors of Roger and Mahalia. The family migrated to Pamlico Co. NC between 1880 and 1897. I founded them in Pamlico Co. using the names of Roger SMITH, and Mahalia Ann GREEN. I'm also searching for information on the slave ship "GOOD INTENT" which was shipwrecked off of Cape Hatteras NC in 1767. The name of the Captain of the ship was COPELAND, I don't have a first name. I would greatly appreciate any information. -----------------------------------

Thomas Mason Sr, wife Elizabeth, and sons Thomas Jr. and James, came to the Whitewater country of western Indiana, near the Ohio line, and purchased land. Thomas Mason, Jr. was my great great grandfather. They were Quaker, like many of the families from NC that settled these new lands. I have not been able to connect this family to a county in NC, but Hyde County seems promising. I would be most appreciative if I could connect this family to their roots in NC. Robert Mason Kipp
Hello, Can anyone tell me what the letter O stands for in Jordan O Hamilton's name. He was born 1808 and was a civil war vet of Hyde Co. Someone suggested it might be Oscar but knew of no connection. Any ideas? thanks diane mason http://www.geocities.com/heartland/plains/6598/index.html My Family Page & Beaufort County's Virtual Community http://www.beaufort-county.com
Hi everyone, I am new to the list. I have some ancestors out of Sladesville, Hyde County, NC, and wondered what is like there now. If I drive out (from Missouri) are there any hotels in that area, or where would you suggest that a family stay? What are some sights that shouldn't be missed? Where would I go to find info on my ancestors who lived in Sladesville in the 1700s??? I am researching the Slade family as well as Becton, Metts and Hodge out of Craven County. Thanks for any info. Any "cousins" out there? Sincerely, Alex cmeyer02@mail.win.org

Folks, Here are two other querys I've recently received. Please reply to the sender. John ---------------------------------------- DANIELS / LANIER Olive Thornton OThornton@webtv.net March 15, 1999 Bible record shows Clement DANIELS born November 13,1790 Hyde County, son of Thomas and Rhoda (Rody/Roda) DANIELS. Have been trying to determine if this Thomas could be in family that married Elizabeth LANIER in Tyrrell County or maybe connected to DANIELS family Roanoke Island, or both. Can find many references to Thomas. but need one married to Rhoda. Thomas on Hyde census 1810, but only Rhoda listed in 1820. Any help will be much appreciated. ---------------------------------------- EQUILS Rachel Equils Basso RaeB105352@aol.com March 15, 1999 I'm looking for information on Zion EQUILS. William Carawan WILLIAMSON b. 21 July, 1804 d. 19 Sept., 1873 (s/o Avory & Mary (CARROWON) WILLIAMSON) [Please correct any data know to be incorrect.] -------------------------------------------- >From information Merlin and Kay Lynn have sent, Susanna Carrawan BENSON was the wife of James WATSON (c.1758-1826), and that she was a daughter of Massey & Elizabeth BENSON. >From the Hyde County census records, 1786 to 1810, for James WATSON's family, I figure his wife, Susanna Carawan BENSON, would have been born between 1755-1765, which would make her twenty years older than the oldest daughter named above. That's not impossible I guess, especially if he had two wives. However, she may have been a sister, cousin or sister-in-law. If these dates I have for Joseph CARRAWON ( I ) (c.1739-c.1786) are correct, and his widow Susanna (SWINDELL) CARRAWON (d/o Caleb SWINDELL (Sr.), appeared in the 1786 census, but not in the 1790 census, is it know that she died or is it possible that she married a BENSON and then James WATSON??? If this sounds confused, I am. 8>() John -----------------------------------------------------------
