    3. I am the host of Bath County in the USGenWeb Project and would like to state that the USGenWeb Project Volunteers are not allowed to solicit funds. It is a not for profit organization and part of our bylaws restrict us from soliciting monetary contributions for our volunteer efforts. We appreciate the desire to send compensation, but that would go against our efforts to provide free online genealogy. The sites are generously given to us free of charge by different servers such as: usgennet.org, rootsweb and geocities/yahoo so there are no hosting fees incurred by these sites. The goals of USGenWeb is to provide our services free of charge, making us unique in the online community. Your thanks and kind words is all we need! Thank you! 1. Roll Call!
    2. Karen Swindell Wilson
    3. My family intermarried with just about every surname in Hyde County, but here's my direct line: John & Mary (McPherson) SWINDELL Josiah & (unknown/first wife) SWINDELL Willis & (unknown/second wife) SWINDELL Ashley & Anna (Hendrix) SWINDELL The remainder were born in Indiana. There is a possibilty that Willis' first wife's surname was ASHLEY. Feel free to check out my web site... http://home.earthlink.net/~cropwithme/ I don't have much posted on the Swindell family just yet, so bear with me. But I'd love to share info with anyone interested. I have TONS of Swindells from Hyde County in my database. --Karen Swindell Wilson NEW! http://home.earthlink.net/~cropwithme/ http://creative-memories.com "If the photo is worth taking, the memory is worth preserving." ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* Simple Albums, Completed Pages Creative Memories... 1. Berry, Harris, Weston, Jarvis, etc.
    2. Thank you for the call for a Roll Call. All my father's lines are Hyde, and half my mother's. That means that I am interested in practically every family in Hyde from way back. Even if I have no line to some families, or know of none at this time, I want to know about all families. Once upon a time, I intended to write a history of Hyde County, but circumstances did not allow. I appreciate every single bit of information you all provide. Merlin Berry

    3. I hope to get down to Hyde County (and Beaufort County) this year to personally look at family records. I appreciate all of the hard work people put in on geneology and how everyone appears so willing to help each other out! Ellen Williams has done a lot of work on my family! When I get to Hyde County I hope to take her out to dinner! My line is: Stephen Sanford BRINN (my great-grandfather, Hyde County) married in 1885 Elizabeth LANGLEY (my great-grandmother from Beaufort County) (I need to find brothers of Elizabeth who may have been blind and then passed on the gene for their daughters to become genetic carriers of retinitis pigmentosia. Elizabeth may have had sisters who weren't blind but were carriers and passed the genetic eye disease on to male children who became blind or females who continued to carry the disease.) James Sanford BRINN (my grandfather) married around 1919 Pearl JEANETTE (daughter of George JEANETTE and Lydia ALCOX) Happy New Year to all! --Diane Schlegel dianes@wamego.net

    2. Thank you to all who have contributed to our search for our ancestors. I wish I could have done more, but time and circumstances did not allow it. Maybe this year. In place of spending time actually working on the site, I will again this year send John an inadequate recompense in money form for the 12 months, amounting to a mere $10 per month. This for his creating, setting up, and maintaining an excellent site, from which I glean so much about the land and people of my birthplace. And thank you to Kay Lynn for her work on behalf of us all. Thank you all who help to keep alive the memory of our common past, through many generations. Merlin Berry

    3. Thanks for the suggestion of the Roll Call today, John. Since I'm snowed in today in (in Suffolk VA), it's a great time for me to do so reading, searching the web and read emails. Roll Call (all on my grandmother's Hyde County side): Grandfathers: Harris, Jarvis, Credle, etc. Grandmothers: Jarvis, Credle, Holliday (Martin County), Slade, Sawyer, Gardner (Martin County), Coffee, Veal, Swindell, Brooks, Mason, etc Of particular interest - what happened to Gilbert Harris (born 1859) - son of Benjamin Harris and his wife Jane (unknown)? He left his wife (Mary Ann Veal Credle) and family of three sons (William, Edward and Charles) and a daughter (Ellen Harris or Credle depending on the source). His last son was born circa 1883 (Charles) and Mary remarried in 1886 (William Dameron Pugh). Gilbert was seen by his son and grandson in 1931 in Chesapeake City Maryland, but Maryland doesn't seem to hold a death record for him --- oh to see the 1930 census for that area!
