I also send greetings to all. Every now and then I like to read and see what the Hyde Co. group is up to. I am currently researching the Davenport and Chesson lines from Washington and Tyrell counties. Every now and then I see where they made it to Hyde Co. My family lines in Canada are a little to hard to trace. There are stories that they had to marry into the indians due to the lack of females in the region back then.(1600's) I hope that maybe a cousin will supply that information one day. I thank God though that Richard Davenport 1646-1714 and Rodger Chesson 1635- were able to survive in the harsh conditions found in the New World. They gave birth to this nation where we can still worship Jesus without fear, openly and lovingly. Kay Lynn and John, my apologies for adding unintended fuel to the petty politics fire. Thanks for this timely reminder, and thanks again to you both for your unflagging efforts at keeping the Hyde County website and mailing list topnotch! Just to set the record straight folks and not wanting to spoil the atmosphere of this list, i must at least inform you that Nola (because she has nothing better to do i guess) is spreading lies about me. She and her good friend Derick think that by lying about me they can cause me to lose support with you the researchers. First off, i am NOT president of Webroots. I am not even a member of webroots. Neither Derick or Nola can produce a document with my signature on it. But even if i were what would be the big deal? She is also attempting to associate the below site at http://www.member-webroots.org/rebuttals/index.htm with me. This is slander, pure gossip and foundless accusations intended to cause me harm. I only have one account at Webroots and that is the ncbath account. I think that Nola has shown to you that i was telling you the truth when i said that they were systematically abusing and slandering me via the rootsweb mail list...even going so far as to put up a slanderous webpage in order to belittle me and cause the public to turn against me. I don't even know NOla...she is fairly new in the project and why she would want to spend her time attacking me a long time volunteers who has for years served without pay and at my own expense maintained computer services for the benefit of all genalogy researchers is just beyond explanation. I think that all you people who have ever written to me with a question on Beaufort, Bath, Pamlico, Pitt, Pasquotank, Montgomery and Wayne and Albemarle will have to respect that i have always been here just to serve you...i make no money .....seems all i get from the NCGenWEb Project is abuse on top of more abuse. My only intention was to let you know that Bath county was NOT up for Adoption. I intend to stay on the job whether the SC DErick at NCGenWeb links to me or not. I can function as an independent site just as well...search engines willl help you find me. Now i will drop this matter on the Hyde list as long as there are no more lies written about me here. I must defend myself against malicious slander and lies. Hey, thanks for telling your side of the story, Diane, although it's a little hard to separate fact from opinion in that narrative. "He doesn't like me" and "he's been telling lies about me" may be true, but these statements are vague and not documented. And if we don't know the details, how can we even have informed opinions, much less make choices? Also, to be fair, we should hear from Derek, publicly. And then, if you believe specific things he says are not true, you could identify those things and how they aren't true. Thanks for starting the dialogue. And Nola, thanks for the additional details, which add the first clarion note yet heard. I have never been a CC or anything else in any of the web projects -- just a researcher -- and I agree wholeheartedly that Diane has done a great job. B. J. With all due respect, the following link should adequately reflect Diane's opinions. She was the founder of the company, along with one Daryl Lytton and was listed as the President at the time of incorporation. This website alone was enough to mold my opinion. GenWeb does not need this kind of destructive force. http://www.member-webroots.org/rebuttals/index.htm Diane has said she does not think that she is supposed to transcribe records to be a part of GenWeb and while there is no rule that she MUST transcribe, grabbing every county just to let them sit is certainly not constructive. She also has started her own competing group NC-Roots. Her partner in WebRoots.org is also the person who started the usgenweb.us server to have another pulpit for their divisive views. There are 2 side to most stories, and there is certainly another side of this one. I am certain the people of Hyde Co. are not interested in the problems but I can not let this go unchallenged. Just one person's opinion. Nola
I for one support Diane . She has been a great CC for the counties that she maintains. Because the new SC has come in and taken control, he has done everything he can to blacklist her and to defame her name to the Board and others, I think its about time for us to give her our support and to write Derick and let him know that we have no qualms with Diane. I think we all have been very pleased in the way she handles her counties, she has been in the project for several years now, and is well knowledgeable in what she says and what she knows. I was delinked from being the co CC because I was more or less forced to give up my county Albemarle. I didn't agree with everything that was going on in the way the new SC was projecting his thoughts and forcing issues that didn't need to be changed. Our project has been great up till now, so I think, if it ain't broke, it doesn't need to be fixed. lets support Diane. Its time our voice be heard. I just wonder what you would do if the shoe were on the other foot, and this was YOU that the SC was smearing!!! B.J B.J
Hello USGenWeb researchers of NC, My name is Diane, i was the very first volunteer to create a Bath county site for you. I set it up in 1996. I took on five other counties at that time as well, because nearly all the counties needed a volunteer for the NCGenWeb USGenWeb Project to get them online. So that is six years now I have been working with Bath, Beaufort,Pamlico,Pasquotank,Albemarle...almost as long with Pitt. Well a few months back our ex SC went missing and no one was maintaining the state not even her three Assistants, so we had an election for a new SC. One of her assistants named Derick Hartsharn got elected. He doesn't like me and he doesn't like a lot of other people it appears, and every since being elected,he has been lying about me on the web and generally abusing me. He wants me out of the Project. Well about a month ago he kicked my co host out of the whole state project....I was co hosting with that person at Bath County. Today, he delinked my Bath County Page from the NCGenWeb Project...saying that it was because of who i chose as a co host. But that is wrong....that person is gone and he is punishing me for my choice of co host. He is running roughshod over the project with these methods. The project is not as friendly as it once was.We are losing the rights we earned-every day. Several members have quit since he was elected. According to the Bylaws, he has no right to delink a county that is in compliance with the guidelines and the bylaws, but he has done it anyway. He unsubbed me from the state mail list so that i can not speak about these abuses to the other members. He tell lies and I have sought a grievance with the Advisory Board. If they will not rescue me from him, I will pursue it legally. If you want to continue using my website, it is of course still online, just not linked to from the NCGenWeb Project. He has also announced that he is taking my Montgomery site because i am only the Co Host. He says that the main host may not turn it back to me even though i was the one who selected the main host to join me as a cohost. If you oppose this action please let me and them know publicly. Even private letters will just be sweep under the rug by them. I have about 5 other counties that i expect he will eventually delink as well, simply to get rid of me. Mark you favorites... He can not take my mail list or my sites-only the link...so you may always stay in touch with me through my mail list and my website--it doesn't need to be affiliated with the USGenWeb/NCGenWeb Project to stay online for your use. And as always you may still contribute your data to us. I apologize for the usgennet.org server being down for so long..but they offer free service and are a legal non profit foundation. The are doing the best they can to get a new server functioning....every successful company has growing pains. Contributions to them are tax deductible. YOu will always be able to find my site and speak to me via my site at: www.usgenweb.us/project/ncbath & www.ncroots.com & www.usgennet.org/usa/nc/county/bath www.usgennet.org/usa/nc/county/montgomery & www.rootsweb.com/~ncmontgo hosted with AHGP. I do not need a link from NCGenWeb to continue my work hosting these counties on your behalf. Hopefully this note will get to Pat Richard who just sent me the nicest 2003 NC pictoral calandar in the mail today. It makes me long for sand & sea rather than the tornadic conditions that we've had this past week. All is well with us here in Goodlettsville although some very close to us did not fare so well. Pat, I managed to lose your e-mail address somehow or other and didn't want you to think that I was unappreciative of the super gift. I'm placing this note on the Hyde Co. mailing list hoping that you'll see it. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!! Kay Lynn

Thank you, Kay Lynn, for yet another outstanding contribution, with the 1930 Hyde Census, to the determined effort to keep alive the memory of our ancestors, so that their names and their lives will be celebrated for generations to come, and that we may better know who we are. I was born in 1935 and grew up in Swan Quarter, so here in this list of names is reflected the world I came into and that shaped me. I knew so many of them, and knew of even more, and know some of them who still live. In each of my remaining days, I will give thanks to God for such a heritage. And thank you, John, for your labor of love in undertaking and achieving so much -- for me as a cousin with our common ancestry, and for all of us as the overseer and preserver of a permanent record of those we loved.
