John and a Merry Christmas to you and Kay Lynn also. An another thanks for the good work that you both do for us. Like you I am kin to everyone in Hyde County. Both parents were born and raised there, as I was. I am stuck on Nathaniel Gibbs who died in 1848 and is buried in his own graveyard. Probably in his field or yard. Page 172 and 208 in "In Memory of". His wife was Christiana Sewell (daughter of Henry and Sarah Sawyer) She also married Sharrack Sadler and David Payne. My greatgrandfather was Joseph Burns (Joe) Gibbs born 9/6/1847 and died 6/1/1925. He was married to Emmaline Swindell (daughter of Samuel Lindsey Swindell son of and Ann Mariah Harris (daughter of Jonathan Harris and Cassandra Gibbs). If anyone out there can help with Nathaniel's parentage then I would so appreciate it. Gayle Jones Riddick Williamsburg, VA

Happy Holidays to all from unseasonably warm and drought-stricken Kansas! I continue to seek information on the Langley family who descended from Beaufort County, NC. Leven Langley and Epsyann his wife gave birth to Harriet Elizabeth (Lizzie) Langley (born September 24, 1862) in Beaufort County, NC. Sanford Brinn (Hyde County, NC) and Lizzie Langley were married September 2, 1885. I have plenty of information on the Brinn line. I need any information I can find on Lizzie's siblings and children. I would like to connect with some of them today. Thank you. --Diane Schlegel dianes@wamego.net
Searching for the parents, siblings and wives of my ggf Edward COOPER, born abt. 1810, probably in Martin County. Sometime between 1860 and 1870 he moved to Hyde County. He died in Hyde County between 1874 and 1878. One of Edward COOPER's wives probably was Caroline SAWYER, given names for other possible wives are Levina, Fanny and Elizabeth. Looking for any help and willing to share information. Ruffin Cooper Millersville Md. P.S. Looking for a professional genealogist with Martin County expertise, any help would be appreciated.
I'm researching the families of Asa O'Neal, 1792-1867, Anson W. Sawyer, 1851-1923, Richard Bailey, 1829-1870, and Wiliam Franks, Bef 1798-1848. Sammy A. Pierce Hobe Sound, FL
I am searching for information on the Hyde Co, NC WINFIELD family. John WINFIELD, b 1780-1790 in NC, moved to South Carolina, where he died about 1841. One of his sons, who eventually moved to Perry Co, AL then Neshoba Co, MS, was named James Kennedy WINFIELD. I suspect John WINFIELD to have been from the Hyde Co, NC WINFIELD family. Could his 1st wife have been a Hyde Co KENNEDY? Does anyone recognize this family?
My stumbling block is William Murray NIXON, b. 6/13/1838, d. 2/17/1894, married Louisa Cox 11/19/1863. His mother's name was Nancy. No other information. Any help would be appreciated. Elizabeth
Hi folks, In answer to the roll call, I'm researching the following family trees: + Thomas Spencer of "Chekencomick" - descendants in general + William Watson Spencer - descendants and ancestors (part of the Thomas Spencer line) + William Watson and Sophia Cary - descendants, including Prudence Watson (mother of William Watson Spencer) + Shallington family + Leath family (brick wall = Susan Prucia Leath, 1828-1898, wife of Willam Watson Spencer) + Jesse Bond Whitley (b. 11 May 1812, husband of Elizabeth Wilkinson) - descendants and ancestors Happy holidays to cousins, fellow researchers and other friends! - Jim Spencer jlswahoo@cs.com
Like a lot of people in Hyde County I'm descended from the Harris' down through Gilbert G. Harris (son of Benjamin and Jane). Thanks to great researchers in Hyde like Ellen Williams I have lots of Harris information, but I'm still looking for Gilbert Harris. He was born 1859 in Hyde County and married Mary Ann Veale Credle (my gg-grandmother) before leaving her with three sons and disappearing. Last seen circa 1930 in Chesapeake City Cecil County MD. In addition to the Harris and Credle lines, I'm also looking at Jarvis (again with great help from Hyde County researchers) as I'm descended from one of Tilman Ferdinand Jarvis' wives (Holliday from Martin County). Other Hyde County names in my ancestry are McWilliams (Ellen daughter of Abraham) which of course brings in the Slade's. One last name, one I don't have much info on - Sawyer. I'm descended from Zephenias Sawyer whose daughter Betsy married Jonathan Jarvis. I've found some War of 1812 records but not much else. Sharon Rea Gable gables@erols.com
still looking for any Pauls, Windleys, Robbins, Eborns, Satchwell C. Paul
I am still interested in the following families: John Williams, Sr. of Ocracoke; the Farrows of Currituck and Hyde; the Jarvis Family descended from Gov Thomas Jarvis (dc 1694) of Currituck, Hyde or wherever the appear in NC, MO, TN, etc; Mason Family of Hyde and TN; Amasa Berry Family in VA and Hyde; Harris Family and their origin. I had a disaster about 1-1/2 months ago and lost about the last 2 years of my genealogies as well as my Address Book. If you wish me to add you to my Address Book re a particular family, please send me a reply to this message. Ellen
Like John, I too would guess that I'm connected to most families in Hyde County :o) I will find myself in Georgia next November, so I'm working on getting myself to Hyde Co. for the first time. I hope to meet some of you in person who are still in the area. ROLL CALL ... My family names from NC are - Swindell (my main line), McPherson (a female line I know little about), and Hendrix (another female line I know little about). There's a chance one of my surnames is Ashley. Other researchers have speculated on this. My 4th GGrandfather Willis Swindell was married twice, but we don't know either's names. He also served in the Rev. War, but I desperately need proof. He was once accepted in the DAR on secondary proof and now he's not accepted. Nothing I've researched to date has turned up proof. I've even been taken under the wings of a NARA employee who couldn't find anything federally. Anyone have any suggestions? Hope all of you have a wonderful Christmas and safe New Years!
