    1. Re: NCHYDE-D Digest V04 #40
    2. To John Hope you are resting after a good Thanksgiving dinner. Always glad to hear from you. We had snow in our part of Missouri, so we stayed at home all day. I have finally gone as far as I can on my Swindell history. I have scanned in a lot of pictures and it's all in my computer -- 235 pages -- but no index yet. I will check with some of our printers next week to see what it will cost to have it printed. Ink is too expensive for me to take it from my printer -- because of all the pictures. Best wishes to you and the family. Vivian Swindell DeLong

    1. Birth Certificates Legislation in Congress
    2. John B. McGowan
    3. This is the latest as of 8:30 AM Pacific Time: House and Senate conferees are meeting this week to iron out differences between the House and Senate intelligence reform bills. Provisions in both bills would increase security around birth certificates. Problem: The House bill (H.R. 10) contains a provision requiring state governments to meet minimum standards for the issuance and administration of birth certificates. Among other mandates, the legislation requires the State to adopt a practice that would: "Restrict public access to birth certificates and information gathered in the issuance process to ensure that access is restricted to entities with which the State has a binding privacy protection agreement." While the Senate bill (S. 2845) includes provisions increasing the security of birth certificates, it does not restrict public access to certificates and other information. We need your help on this issue over the next two days, as the conference may wrap up at the end of the week. The request for assistance is immediate! 1. Please call your Representative on the conference committee to encourage them to accept the Senate language in the intelligence bill on increased security for birth certificates since the Senate language would not restrict access to records that are currently open to the public. 2. Please call your Senators on the conference committee and ask that they hold firm on the Senate birth certificate language. Below is a list of the House and Senate conferees and the sections of the intelligence bills in play. 1. 1945 news articles now posted
    2. Kay M Sheppard
    3. Folks, I hope each of you have been enjoying the Hyde news articles I've recently been posting from the Dare County Times. I now have the entire year of 1945 posted. You can view this year at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~nchyde/NEWS1D.HTM. The next microfilm I'll be viewing will be the 1920's Elizabeth City (Pasquotank County) newspapers and hopefully there will be some articles in them about Hyde County. All of Hyde's census records are online with the exception of 1850, 1900 & 1910 which can be bought in published books. Hyde's marriages are currently being worked on and will be published in book form at a later date. Deed books A (1736-1762) and B (1762-1783) are in publication. Hyde County estates of the 1700's has been published by R.S. Spencer and wills from 1709- 1819 have been published by Ellen A. Williams. Is there anything that you folks would like to see online that we don't already have? Any suggestions will be taken under advisement. Let me hear from you! Kay Lynn

    1. DAVIS, GURGANUS & WINFIELD Cousins
    2. John B. McGowan
    3. Folks, I am researching my early DAVIS, GURGANUS, and WINFIELD ancestors of Hyde and Beaufort Counties during the 1700’s and early 1800’s. These folks lived mainly in the area on the west side of the Pungo River which was Hyde County up to 1819, then it was ceded to Beaufort County. These families intermarried with each other and their neighbors the GAYLORDS, SATTERTHWAITES, WILKINSONS, and others. I would like to correspond with anyone researching the early Davis, Gurganus, and Winfield families and any others connected by marriage prior to 1825. At present, I have very little info to share except what is contained in various Hyde County publications and census records, Thanks, John McGowan jmack@carolina.net

This cemetery contains a passel of Berrys and I would invite any Berry surnamed male descendant of any of these folks to consider the Berry Family DNA Project.
