Folks, We have recently changed the arrangement of our Hyde County Query Pages. Previously we had them arranged chronologically, from 1997-2005. We have now arranged the Queries alphabetically. Several pages include several letters, such as A and B on the same web page. As some of you know, you have submitted queries on the same families over a period of several years. It would be greatly appreciated if everyone would check these queries and combine the several queries into one query... Please. It would also be appreciated if everyone would check their queries and their email addresses for accuracy. Also, some queries include several surnames. I will construct an index for your use as soon as I can. If anyone has new Queries or Surnames to submit, now would be a good time. Thanks for your assistance. John

Folks, I am forwarding this Gibbs Query to the NCHYDE List for Brandi Howerton. Pleas reply directily to her at: mailto:brandihowerton5@aol.com ------------------------------------------------------------ I am searching for any information on Joseph Burns GIBBS from Engelhard. Some of the information provided about him on the Hyde Co., NCGenWeb site is a bit confusing because there seems to be more than one Joseph B. GIBBS. His parents are Christianna and Nathaniel GIBBS, who are listed, but we need a bit more. He is my great, great grandfather. I am in search for info because my father is trying to join the Sons of Confederate Veterans and in order to join he needs exact information on the Company as well as Regiment that his great grandfather served in; a copy of the muster record to be exact. We don't have any relatives who remember him well enough to provide more details. Do you happen to know of whom we may contact to get more information? I appreciate any leads that you may have. As we have been searching for some time now. Thank you in advance. Brandi Howerton mailto:brandihowerton5@aol.com ------------------------------------------------------------

Mrs. Mourning Ann (Winstead) Ruffin in 1868 4. Mary Ann Stotesbury In the 1900 Hyde Census John was 72 and Mary, his 4th wife, was 63 and they lived in Swan Quarter Township. Neither of them appear in the 1910 Hyde Census. John D. Williamson was a son of Samuel Williamson (ca.1774-1840) & Charity (___?___), and a grandson of Samuel Williamson (ca.1755-1821). Greetings to all of our BRITNELL cousins in North Carolina. I am conducting a census for BRITNELL hopefully to be complete by March of 2005. During my research in the past fifteen years I have discovered that there are about 4000 of us using the name w/w. This name appears to be going into decline. To avert the total loss of the name, somewhere down the line of time, I am hoping that we can come up with a solution to avoid this. We need your participation. The BRITNELL name has an interesting history and it would be a terrible shame to lose it. I don't much like being an endangered species. For those BRITNELLs who did not receive a census package in the mail please email me here-->mary.anne@shaw.ca OR: write to me at 35 Deerpoint Road, SE, Calgary, Alberta, Canada, T2J 6R3 I hope to have the census complete by March of 2005. Folks, If you keep running into farming or mechanical terms that are unfamiliar to you, please click on the below link: http://www.princetonimaging.com/library/mechanical-dictionary/subjects/index.html All you need to navigate around the Mechanical Dictionary pages of this great resource is the free DjVu plugin. A link for the free DjVu plugin is in the upper left corner of the above website. The plugin operates much like Adobe Acrobat Reader and MrSID. Once you have downloaded the DjVu plugin, click here for the agriculture index: http://www.princetonimaging.com/library/mechanical-dictionary/subjects/idx_agriculturalandhusbandryimplements.html It's very interesting to browse through these old phrases which our ancestors used in daily life. She was enumerated with her husband , James D.Moseley, Jr., in Princess Anne Co., VA, even though she wasn't married until after the effective date of the census. We're looking for her parents. It's not proof positive but this is what I have on the Carawan-Jarvis connection. Elder Green Carawan s/o William Carawan and Amy Green married 1st to Britinna Jarvis, d/o Foster Jarvis. Hyde County 1869 marriage certificate of William B. Tooly and Nancy T. M. Swindell gives grooms parents as A. L. and Mary Tooley and brides parents as Green and Britanna Carawan. See also article "Albin B. Swindell House and Store", High Tides, Vol. 8, No. 2, Fall 1987, p. 18. which states basically the same as above. See Hyde Co. Web page for the obituary of Elder Green Carrowon.. The obit states that Elder Green Carrowon married 1st a daughter of Foster Jarvis of SQ and had seven children. He married 2nd a daughter of Henry Carrow and had nine children. The 1832 Beaufort Co. will of Green Carrowon does not name wife, but "father Henry Carrow " was one of the executors. Beaufort Co.NC Will Abstracts 1720-1868, p. 66& 67. I beleive that Delilah Carrow was 2nd wife of Green, but have no proof of her given name. There was a Delilah Carrow listed as a female member of the S. Mattamuskeet Baptist Church in 1808. Henry Carrow was a male member. See Hyde Web page-The Kehukee Baptist Association and the South Matamuskeet Baptist Church.--"A True List of members names who Constitute and Composed the S. Mattamuskeet Baptist Church". Any corrections, additons, or thoughts welcome. Kitty John B.
