    3. It is no surprise to anyone that there are LOTS of HARRELLs in North Carolina, particularly around Hertford, Bertie & Gates counties. It seems like almost everyone of them named one of their sons WILLIAM, too! Would be extremely grateful to anyone who could help me sort them out and prove the missing link in our lineage. A family heirloom, a large calligraphy-type drawing under glass in a picture frame, contains the following information of our known ancestor: W.A. HARREL was borned March 20, 1856 near Winton, North Carolina. We spell the name HARRELL. I believe he was from the area of what is now the City of Harrellsville. Family tradition states that Billy came to Arkansas when about six years of age, or about 1862. He has only one known sister, Sarah Ann (Sallie Ann) Harrell b 1861 NC who married James O. Quattlebaum. Very little is known about Billy's father whose name, according to family Bible records, was William David A. Harrell born June 26, 1833. His mother said to be Sophia Hill born August 12, 1835 NC. However, because of the 5-year age difference between Billy and Sallie, it's possible they could have had different mothers though Sophia was the one who raised Billy and was the only mother he knew. Family tradition says that William David A. Harrell was killed during the war. Sophia was in White County, Arkansas by the 1870 census in the household with new husband, Luke T. Hutchinson who she married April 12, 1870. Billy and Sallie had a half-brother, L.D. Hutchinson, born in 1873. W.A. "Billy" Harrell married Missouri Ann Stites on December 19, 1878. Their children were: William Henry, Jethro O. 1880, Armittie 1882, Ethel Starr 1889, Lena 1893 and Nora 1899. Jethro is another name that seems to have been passed down through generations. Does anyone have any data on HARRELLs that might help? Is there a HARRELL database out there... anywhere? Martha in Texas
