    3. Oh Sally, I am so sorry to hear about your father's granddad passing away like that! How horrible for your dad, and the Major to have gone through that. This is a good reminder to everyone to take the information from these books with a grain or two of salt as these are not holy grails. They are however "about the only dance in town" sometimes, and it is easy to get caught up in the notion that the information must be true because it's in a book. It is amazing to me how these people correlated the genealogy and historical data and wrote these books so long ago. Little wonder that there are inaccuracies - proving once again that we have to do our own research :o) .... darn it!
