Does anyone on this list connect to and Nichols who lived in the area of St. John's twp during the 1800's? Also searching for more information on a John Nichols, who lived in Winton, Hertford Co., in 1805. His name appears in a newspaper ad that year. He had lost a horse and was posting an ad in hopes of retreiving it. I believe he is the John Nichols who d. abt. 1830 and who is the father of Lemuel Nichols who lived in St. John's. Lemuel died there in September 1881. Lemuel Nichols had at least two children, Sarah M. (b. abt 1837, m. William B. Howard) and Elizabeth (b. abt 1840). Linda

Correction!!! Lemuel Nichols was the youngest son of Wright Nichols of Hertford Co., NC. Wright was b. abt 1769 and d. 1830. A Hertford Co. court document from 1847 mentions that Wright Nichols was the son of John Nichols, and that Wright Nichols was named executor of his father's will. In this document, Wright's daughters Nancy E. Nichols (dec'd by 1844) and Lurenda (Nichols) Marsh are also named as granddaughters of John Nichols. There are some genealogies online that erroneously list this Wright Nichols as the same one who was in Person Co. and who m. Sarah Burch in 1791. These are proven to be two different men, and so far no connection between these two lines has been found.
