Having trouble here in Dallas, Texas concerning Jackson B. Hare (1819-1899). I know quite a lot about him and his involvement in Hertford Co. government. However there is nothing that specifically says who his first wife was other than her first name, as mentioned in J. B. Hare's will of 1899. Her name was Martha (unknown) possibly Daughtie. His second wife was Laura V. Howell. His father can only be determined by a great bulk of circumstantial evidence. His father appears to be John Hare born 1801 and shown as living with Lemuel Jernigan, household #273, Southern District, 1850 Census, Hertford Co. Lemuel Jernigan & Jackson B. Hare were both quite intimately involved in gov't & business together over a period of 20 years. Also shown in the Jernigan household is John Hare's other son Othelo Hare age 15. Next page shows Jackson B. Hare in household # 276. I know there was one more son of John Hare making three known brothers. His name was Thomas J. Hare (1830-1895). Both Othe! llo & Thomas migrated to Harris Co. Texas. Thomas Hare became Capt. of Co. K. 26th Texas Cav. CSA. Othello Hare was Pvt. Co. B, 2nd Ark Cav, CSA.
